Maine Term Limits seeks to pass an Article V application through the state legislature for the sole purpose of imposing term limits on the US Congress.

Get involved now! We have launched a new grassroots campaign to bring term limits to Congress and we need your help! Congress will never propose an amendment to limit its own terms. That’s why we need to use an amendment-proposing convention of the states to get it done! Across America, 87% of Republicans, 83% of Democrats and 75% of Independents support term limits on Congress. This is a fundamental American issue that has the support of the people. The Founders included the Article V convention in the Constitution specifically to empower states to seek amendments. Maine can be part of the solution by passing a bill to call for the convention in the upcoming session. We are working to get the Maine Legislature to pass our bill so that we can be one of the required 34 state legislatures to call for this Term Limits Convention. Congress was meant to be public service, not a permanent way of life. But when there is no limit on terms, the perks and privileges of Washington can become part of the routine, and some lawmakers retire in spirit long before they retire from office. Term limits help keep service temporary and accountable.

The longer lawmakers stay in Washington, the more time special interests have to build relationships and influence around them. And those relationships can become valuable to lawmakers too, expanding the networks and access that come with years in office. Congressional term limits would bring regular turnover and make entrenched influence harder to build on both sides.

When 19-year-old Gregory Watson wrote a college term paper arguing that a forgotten 1789 amendment could still be ratified, his professor gave him a "C" and told him it was impossible.

He didn't listen.

Long before social media or the internet, Watson launched a relentless, self-funded campaign. Over 200 years after James Madison introduced it, the measure crossed the finish line to become the 27th Amendment.

His school many years later changed his grade from a C to an A.
