Upholding human rights isnโ€™t only about addressing present injustices, it's about reshaping unjust societies and empowering marginalized groups. This , and every day, EAI supports peaceful, resilient, and inclusive communities worldwide by changing norms and amplifying voices.

Through the PIWA - Promoting an Inclusive West Africa Program in Cote d'Ivoire, EAI is promoting social cohesion and reducing marginalization in northern Cรดte d'Ivoire by empowering Fulbe leaders and fostering collaboration with government leaders and diverse ethnic groups.

"He has changed a lot."
In Nepal, 31.5% of women report emotional, physical, or sexual violence by an intimate partner in their lifetime. Despite evidence to suggest that patriarchal social norms underpin intimate partner violence (IPV), very few interventions in Nepal have tested whether changing social norms to promote gender equity reduces levels of IPV.
Change Starts at Home was created to address this. Focused on an innovative radio program, an interactive voice response (IVR) platform and weekly group meetings, the intervention used media and peer to peer support to address social norms, attitudes, and behaviors that perpetuate women and girlsโ€™ low status in Nepal.
In this video, Couple Asharam and Bikani share their experiences with the comprehensive violence prevention curriculum โ€“ the B.I.G Change Curriculum, which can be accessed via WhatWorks: https://www.whatworks.co.za/.../494-big-change-curriculum

๐Ÿ’กDid you know that Gender-Based Violence is preventable? EAI's Gender Transformative Training in Nairobi equipped our Equal Access International - East Africa team and Soomaaliya project partners from SW and JL State in Somalia with knowledge and tools to help them design programs and interventions that are not only responsive to gender dynamics, but actively seek to challenge and reshape negative gender stereotypes.

Despite Somalia's challenging cultural and security context, EAI remains committed to gender equity in all of its interventions, ensuring inclusion principles and recognizing the importance of gender dynamics in promoting peacebuilding initiatives in fragile security contexts.

๐Ÿ“ป A Radio Roundtable focusing on Gender-Based Violence was on broadcast local FM Asia Plus radio stations throughout Tajikistan through the Refugees Awareness for Peaceful Integration and Tolerance program. Ms. Nigina Mamadjonova, a psychologist and gender activist, and Ms. Hanifa Sultonova, the director of the Council of Women of Afghan Immigrants in Tajikistan, recently joined popular Asia Plus Radio host Subhon Jalilov.

Together, their discussion raised awareness about violence encountered by Afghan refugees and Tajik women and discussed structures and mechanisms in Tajikistan for addressing such instances of violence. The radio guests discussed forms of GBV prevalent among Afghan refugees in Tajikistan, and stressed the importance of legal literacy to empower individuals to recognize and address domestic violence effectively.

The speakers framed the conversation within the cultural context of Tajik society, where the upbringing and happiness of children are seen as central to familial success, by explaining that the prevalence of domestic violence contradicts these values and can severely affect children's well-being.

๐Ÿ’กDid you know that denial of resources, opportunities, and/or services is a form of Gender-Based Violence?

Middle school students in northern Cรดte d'Ivoire learned about the different types of GBV through the the Resilience for Peace (Rรฉsilience pour la Paix) project with EAl and partner Association des Femmes Juristes de Cรดte D'Ivoire. Students engaged in theater to challenge harmful behaviors toward girls.

There is for violence against women and girls.

Our Story

EAI helps communities around the world drive sustainable and transformative change through our proven participatory media, technology, and outreach model. By designing solutions with communities, our programming is locally-owned and culturally resonant. We build communication ecosystems that take root and thrive, create platforms that elevate marginalized voices, and build locally-led movements that shift power, inspire normative change and promote creative, positive, and innovative solutions to social issues.

We take an integrated approach to impact

We know that transforming violent extremism cannot occur without strengthening community resilience and engaging all members of society. We know barriers to girlsโ€™ education will not be fully removed until we address gender norms, and we know that youth marginalization cannot be curbed without job creation and access to leadership roles. We know that a strong democracy is founded on the pillars of social equity and justice, which require engaged civic leaders and responsive, accountable governments. We know that stories and narratives that envision a world of equality and address community issues ignite change. By addressing challenges in these key impact areas, we co-create exponential impact and support locally-driven, lasting change with our community partners and donors.
