Deaf Kids Code

Deaf Kids Code Deaf Kids Code is a nonprofit organization created to promote computer programming skills to kids who are Deaf/ Hard of Hearing as away to improve lives.

After becoming an activist for deaf/ hard of hearing children, a realization of serious concerns emerged. Among those was the staggering lack of economic participation deaf/hard of hearing children had going into adulthood. There is also vast education gap in which these kids were falling into. All of the studies and data available have one disturbing trend- this population is without any physical

or intellectual disability, but are not fully engaged within social or economical sectors. Communication gaps conclude the failures of society to benefit from their untapped pool of talent. Exploring all possible career paths that I could help guide them towards, to ensure a brighter future, where they are equipped with a skill set the world needs. Computer programming became a viable answer. By exposing deaf/ hard of hearing students to this skill set, we offer them the world of options in terms of being leaders towards innovation, inspiration, and economic empowerment. Society wins because we get to enjoy the contribution of such talent, as well as, the economic contribution towards the economy. The U.S. workforce in expected to add over 1 million tech/ computing related jobs within the next 8 years. Why not rise to the occasion and support the deaf/ hard of hearing in being a valued part of this need? There are several advantages to programming as a career. Among those is the ability to work remotely, and have all the communication done via email, texting, or other forms of captioning. I hope that by providing the path towards computing, we are able to change the equation.
