DC127 Children need families. Families need community. Everyone can do something. We believe that every child in DC should have a permanent, safe, and loving home.

Our mission is to strengthen and stabilize families impacted by the foster care system in Washington, DC by mobilizing the Church to provide wraparound support.

On September 15th, DC127 joined the DC KinCare Alliance rally on the steps of the DC Council Building to stand alongside kinship caregivers across our city.

QueenAvius Poole, a Kin Caregiver and Co-President of the Relative Caregiver Community Board, spoke about the unique calling of kin caregivers, quoting Isaiah 1:17: "Learn to do good. Seek justice. Help the oppressed. Defend the cause of orphans. Fight for the rights of widows." For Queen, that calling is personal and her faith became action. But she was quick to remind us all of something just as important: God never intended for caregivers to carry this alone.

That's the heart of DC127's work. We exist to make sure the calling of caregiving is never carried in isolation, but surrounded by a community ready to help.

Kin caregivers face unique challenges. Unlike parents, they don’t have automatic legal rights—and they often step in unexpectedly, during a crisis, to raise a child they didn’t plan for.

They show up anyway, so let's show up for them! Learn more about how you can get involved by filling out a DC127 volunteer interest form: https://survey.alchemer.com/s3/7751440/DC127-Volunteer-Interest-Form.

"I don't think transformation is possible without the ongoing, sometimes messy, deep work that DC127 equips us to do."

Whitney has been connected to DC127 since 2013. Her hope is simple: that every child in DC would grow up knowing they are deeply loved, by family, by community, by God.

This is what long-term faithfulness looks like.
