Experts from HSP, Intreped Partners and Jacobs, served as the training team for the TNI Intermediate Biosafety & Biosecurity and Brisk Management Training Workshops, held from 2-6 February 2026, in Medan, Indonesia. This training for 16 clinical laboratory professionals from TNI hospitals in North Sumatra was hosted at the Putri Hijau Hospital. Funded by the U.S. Defense Threat Reduction Agency (DTRA), this is part of a multi-year engagement with the Indonesian Ministry of Defense to build a cohort of laboratory professionals to implement best practices for biosafety, biosecurity and biorisk management at military hospitals across Indonesia.

As a new Allied Member of Pacific Public Health Surveillance Network (PPHSN), Health Security Partners is proud to support and engage alongside regional leaders at last month’s EpiNet Technical Working Group in Nadi, Fiji.

Our team had the privilege of participating in this important convening, where PPHSN brought together country representatives and technical partners to strengthen how EpiNet operates today—and how it will evolve for the future.
EpiNet represents the strength of Pacific collaboration: a multidisciplinary network of health professionals working on the frontlines of disease surveillance, outbreak response, and health emergency preparedness. What stood out most was the shared commitment to a model where “the Pacific helps the Pacific”—ensuring that when countries need surge support, a coordinated regional mechanism is ready.

With rising threats like dengue, measles, and emerging diseases, strengthening EpiNet is not just timely—it is essential. A more coordinated and resourced network means faster outbreak response, stronger national systems, and better protection for communities across the region.

For Health Security Partners, this work also reinforces a critical truth: strengthening health security abroad helps make America safer, stronger, and more prosperous at home. By supporting early detection and rapid response in the Pacific, we reduce the risk of cross-border threats, strengthen trusted partnerships, and contribute to global stability that benefits us all.

We are honored to contribute as a partner in this effort and look forward to supporting the next phase of EpiNet’s growth alongside our Pacific colleagues.

From 3–5 December 2025, Health Security Partners partnered with Sention Threat Intelligence to host a Cyberbiosecurity Professional Development Workshop for 20 trainers from the Association for Biorisk Management-Pakistan. Over three days, participants built the skills needed to assess laboratories for cyberbiosecurity gaps and strengthen protections for biological data, systems, and digital infrastructure. Participants engaged in exercises, incident-response simulations, and practical assessments, preparing them to evaluate real-world risks within laboratory environments. This new capability will enhance ABM’s ongoing work to support biosecurity across Pakistan’s laboratory network. These trainers at ABM represent Pakistan’s first cadre capable of conducting systematic cyberbiosecurity assessments, marking a major milestone for national health security. HSP is proud to work alongside Sention and ABM to advance this critical layer of laboratory security.

New antibiotics are critically required to combat antimicrobial resistance worldwide. This recently announced Fleming Fund-GSK partnership will invest $59 M in multiple research areas to use artificial intelligence (AI) to design and deliver new drugs against drug-resistant bacterial infections.

The UK turns to artificial intelligence (AI) to reverse the rising numbers of infections that shrug off antibiotics.

The World Health Organization states that 305 million people worldwide are in urgent need of humanitarian assistance, including medical care and support for disease surveillance, due to worldwide conflict and epidemics. On January 16, 2025, the WHO launched its Health Emergency Appeal for 2025. The appeal addresses priorities and resources needed to combat 42 ongoing critical global health emergencies that are noted to have grown in scale. In 2025, HSP will continue its work to strengthen global health security by building local capacity to combat global health crises, as well as to work to prevent them. The WHO’s call to action is confirmation that the work being done within the global health community is vital to the individuals and communities that are in need, and that this need only grows every year. HSP is grateful to our partnerships across the globe, without whom we would not be able to accomplish our work, and we look forward to furthering our work to strengthen global health security in the coming years.
