Delta Iota Gamma Fraternity

We want to express our solidarity with the Black Lives Matter movement and those protesting the loss of Black lives at the hands of both police brutality and individual white supremacists. We stand with our Black siblings.

As a fraternity of anthropologists, archaeologists, and historians, we acknowledge our historical role in the institutions of colonialism, racism, and white supremacy, and have a responsibility to address and confront discrimination within our fields. We will continue to interrogate our own privileges and biases, and support initiatives led by people of color.

We will be compiling a list of resources, for both organizations to which to donate, as well as educational material. Feel free to contact us at [email protected] with any concerns.

All are invited to a group viewing of the Virtual Open Session of the Cultural Property Advisory Committee that will be held this coming Mon. April 1 from 1:30-2:30 pm to hear public comments on the request made by the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan for the establishment of U.S. import laws to protect the archaeological heritage of Jordan. We will be screening the hearing in Gelman 609, and Prof. Friedland will be on hand to explain the proceedings!
