Throwback to this TPN article from 2023. The article highlights the work of the Association of Trauma Outreach and Prevention (ATOP) MeaningfulWorld as an international non-governmental organization affiliated with the United Nation’s Department of Global Communication. Over the last three decades, MeaningfulWorld has conducted humanitarian missions in 50 countries aimed at transforming trauma caused by human-made and natural disasters, including horizontal violence (HV). HV, also known as lateral violence, is defined as internalizing the aggression of a perpetrator and displacing it onto others within one’s own group (Hastie, 2002). The prevalence of HV observed in numerous culturally distinct groups suggests the possible benefits of utilizing this framework in future research on collective trauma, intragroup conflict, and community building in oppressed groups. Given the impact of the immigration crackdown and related violence in Minnesota and other states, our first Fireside Chat will take the form of two listening hours to hear from psychologists practicing in these areas of the country about their experiences and needs. Generous offers have come from within and outside of our Division to lend support and share resources, however such initiatives need to be informed and led from the ground up. We welcome the participation of those living and working in states significantly affected by ICE activity as well as those who are less directly impacted but want to learn how they can best support their colleagues.

Our third feature article from Trauma Psychology News- From combat to countryside: Addressing complex trauma in rural veteran populations. The article highlights recommendations for practice of trauma care for rural veterans requiring a blend of cultural awareness and flexibility with a need for providers to become familiar with rural occupations and seasonal cycles to better understand this intersection with trauma symptoms. We hope you'll take time to review this edition and article.
