The Center for Mind-Body Medicine

The Center for Mind-Body Medicine We help communities around the world develop the tools they need to heal population-wide trauma.

Joy is medicine. Community is medicine. Breath is medicine.

Through these medicines, we heal.

Sometimes healing looks like dancing.
Sometimes it looks like gathering in community.
Sometimes it begins with a single breath.

Ready to experience this kind of healing? Join us for our online training in October 2026.

It was a whirlwind few days of back-to-back workshops with clinicians, community members, and residents in the recovery program at Capital Area Human Services.

Across these different groups, the focus was the same: understanding the science of stress, trauma, and anxiety; recognizing their impact on both mind and body; and learning evidence-based mind-body medicine techniques that support healing and resilience.

What these participants reaffirmed is that healing is not something we do alone—it happens in community. Through shared learning, connection, and support, this work has the power to inspire change and create ripple effects that strengthen individuals, families, and communities across Greater Baton Rouge.

Thanks to Randi Mitev, Toni Bankston, the staff at Capitol Area Human Services and the CMBM Team.

What if slowing down was the most powerful thing you could do today?

Join us for a free Open Practice session on June 9th with CMBM Faculty Dena Adler and give yourself permission to pause.

Dena will guide us through CMBM's 3 Drawing Series, a meditative practice using color and reflection to help you transition from spring into summer. No art talent needed. No experience required. Just an open mind and something to color with.

This is mind-body medicine in action, simple and meaningful.

As a thank-you for joining, you'll receive an exclusive discount code for our Fall 2026 Mind-Body Medicine Professional Training Program, beginning in October.

After a two-year hiatus brought about by federal funding cuts and thanks to the generosity of a number of private philanthropists, CMBM returns to Ukraine to train 100 clinicians, mental health professionals, teachers, and others working with hundreds of war-traumatized children.

The training, held in partnership with Save Ukraine known worldwide for its role in repatriating children abducted by Russia and providing shelters for thousands of Internally Displaced Populations, will bring the Center's world-renowned population-wide trauma relief work to a country that remains under constant violent attack.

The program will be led by James Gordon, MD , CMBM Founder and CEO supported by a team of senior international faculty and program staff. One major goal of the program is to expand local capacity by engaging a team of 10 previously trained Ukrainian CMBM facilitators to shadow the international faculty, become supervisors and help expand the footprint of the model in Ukraine by becoming certified CMBM Leaders.

On World Meditation Day we’re pausing to practice something simple but powerful.

When we meditate, we signal to our bodies that we are safe. We are calming the nervous system, regulating emotions, and bringing the body back into balance.

Meditation calms the storm. And it doesn’t mean do-ing more. Oftentimes, simply slowing down and be-ing is the answer.

Mindful meditation is one of the most effective ways to calm the body and mind, and it can be simple and easy to incorporate into your day.

It can look like…
    •    soft belly breathing
    •    mindful eating
    •    dancing in your kitchen
    •    lying still to scan the body

Just 5 intentional minutes can begin shifting the nervous system from stress toward balance.

We hope you’ll join us in a meditation practice today.

More guided practices, mind-body tools, and meditation resources coming soon. Stay tuned as we continue exploring simple ways to support healing, resilience, and nervous system health.

We were honored to spend time in Baton Rouge with the Board Members and Mentors of 100 Black Men of Metro Baton Rouge, Ltd. for an in-person mind-body medicine workshop.

Together, we explored foundational mind-body skills to support not only professional well-being, but also the health and resilience of the young people they mentor. As community advocates, these leaders carry immense responsibility, yet self-care, a critical tool for sustaining that work, is often overlooked.

100 Black Men of Metro Baton Rouge is doing vital work, empowering Black male youth to reach their full potential as students, leaders, and engaged community members. Their commitment to mentorship, accountability, and opportunity is shaping stronger futures every day.

The workshop was led by CMBM Associate Clinical Director Antoinette “Toni” Quinn Bankston, LCSW, BACS, and CMBM Certified Alumna Angela Robertson, MS, NCC, LPC-S - both deeply rooted in the Baton Rouge community - alongside CMBM COO Randi Mitev, whose connection to the region has continued to deepen over the past year.

We’re grateful for the opportunity to learn and share together, and we look forward to building a deeper partnership in support of these extraordinary leaders and the young men they serve.

William E. Orr Middle School Listening Session

We came to share a model.
We stayed to listen.

This is the start of an 18-month journey to build a true Community of Care—centered in trauma healing, resilience, and connection.

Next: summer training with Orr + Valley HS educators to turn insight into practice.

Honored to do this work—color + sparkle included 🌈✨🧢
