Today is . For children with complex medical needs, private duty nursing (PDN) provides extended, one-on-one skilled nursing care that allows many to stay safely at home with their families instead of in an institutional setting.

The bipartisan Continuous Skilled Nursing Quality Improvement Act (H.R. 6592/S. 1920) would rename PDN as continuous skilled nursing, establish national quality standards and recognize the care within Medicaid home- and community-based services.

HCAOA is deepening its focus on Medicaid advocacy. We're excited to welcome Damon Terzaghi as our new Vice President of Public Policy, bringing more than two decades of Medicaid, LTSS and home care policy experience from Oregon, CMS, ADvancing States and the National Alliance for Care at Home.

As more home care providers serve Medicaid clients, Damon's expertise strengthens our ability to advocate for the providers and families who depend on Medicaid-funded home care. Watch for additional resources, including a Medicaid committee, focused communications, state-level engagement, and an online resource hub, in the coming months.
