Light to Life's purpose is to eradicate teen dating violence and empower young men and women through awareness, education, communication skills on how to build positive foundational relationships, and providing emotional support through group counseling

In honor of National Recovery Month, Light To Life is partnering with Dreamers and Achievers Center, with the event coordinated by Be. Breeze Events, for Recovery in Action at THEARC in Washington, DC.

Light To Life will facilitate Peer Connection & Storytelling: People. Paths. Possibilities.—an interactive space where lived experience becomes connection, our community recognizes the strengths within our stories, builds recovery and healing toolboxes, and leaves some light for someone else along the way.

Because no one should have to navigate recovery or healing alone.

Since 2022, Light To Life has proudly worked alongside our long-term partners at From Prison Cells to PhD (P2P) toward a shared vision: creating a safe and stable home for women returning from incarceration where healing, wellness, family, and opportunity are at the center.

And now, that vision is becoming a reality. ✨

Through funding from the Baltimore City Opioid Restitution Fund, P2P received funding to support the purchase and development of this newly renovated transitional home for women and their families in Baltimore.

As a member of the Property and Programming Subcommittee, Light To Life is proud to be leading the development of trauma-informed programming for the women and children who will call this space home.

Advocating for Survivor Justice on Capitol Hill in Washington, DC justice-impacted survivors.💪🏽

We shared our recent research “They’re Survivors Too,” and shared key findings on the lack of gender-responsive programs tailored to justice-impacted survivors with the goal to utilize our evidence-based, culturally-affirming and trauma informed program as an alternative to incarceration and to reduce sentencing for survivors incarcerated. This is just the beginning and we have along way to go, but a step forward is a huge milestone putting our research into action.

Thank you It was honor to be invited by Unlock Higher Education to center directly impacted voices. Working alongside other Advocates gathered from different states to bring awareness to challenges in digital access, curriculum equity, and student loan debt for currently and formerly incarcerated people.

Nothing About Us Without Us!

In case you're new to our community, Light To Life is a social enterprise centering survivors voices through research to break down systemic barriers to ensure all women, girls, transgender women and non-binary people receive the appropriate interventions to heal, learn, grow and ultimately prevent victimization ties to incarceration.

This month we were invited to present at Association for Justice-Involved Females and Organizations in Tulsa, Oklahoma to raise awareness around this epidemic & present our research “They’re Survivors Too” in partnership with From Prison Cells To PhD to share the impact of our gender-responsive programming and policy recommendations on alternatives to incarcerations and sentencing reductions.

Excited to announce 📣 our published Op-ed in Afro News on The repeal of Affirmative Action: Implications for Black college women and rates of domestic violence.

In this Op-ed, we explored how the repeal of affirmative action could have far-reaching consequences for Black college women and the rates of domestic violence they face. Thanks to our summer interns .bisio and .rie for helping to bring this conversation to the forefront!

Black LGBTQ women are at a greater risk of victimization, criminalization, and punishment.

In honor of Pride month this June, we are sharing some educational resources from the National Black Women’s Justice Institute highlighting the discrepancies in impact many government systems, including the criminal justice system, has on le***an individuals, bisexual individuals, transgender individuals, q***r individuals, and women of color.

We must continue to bring awareness to the racial and gender bias across the criminal legal system and dismantle the recurrence of profiling, bias, and abuse toward LGBTQ individuals, especially transgender women of color.

This month and every month, we celebrate Pride whether you’re an ally or a member of the LGBTQ community. Real Justice is Healing. 💜

As long as the carceral system still exists in the U.S. we must continue our work to fight and dismantle racism, sexism and create pathways to healing, education and advocacy to positively impact Black women and girls survivors who are justice-impacted.
