American Tree Farm System

American Tree Farm System ATFS works to give people the tools they need to be effective stewards of America's forests. We work to ensure the legacy of family forest owners continues.

Privately owned woodlands are vital to our country's clean water and air, wildlife habitat, jobs, wood, and paper products we all need. ATFS-certified family forests meet nine standards of sustainability and are managed for water, wildlife, timber, and recreation. "The American Tree Farm System is a nationwide community of Tree Farmers with the same desires to leave the land better for the next generation," - Walt McPhail, 2012 National Outstanding Tree Farmer of the Year.

Don’t Forget to Join Us in the Family Forest!

It’s been almost 2 months since we launched our virtual community for small woodland owners, The Family Forest. Unlike pages, which are best suited for one-way communication, The Family Forest’s virtual community is a space that promotes interactive discussions, resource sharing, and threaded conversations. Our most popular topics so far have been invasive species, what people are doing to make money from their woodlands, and photo sharing. Sub-groups organized around special interest of wildlife and climate change solutions are also available.

To join, simply go to community.forestfoundation.org and submit a registration form. The group is private and moderated, and your data will not be sold to third parties.

Over time, we plan to phase out the ATFS page and use it only for major announcements. If you enjoy interacting with family forest owners and conservation professionals, we hope you’ll come take a walk with us in The Family Forest!
