Very disturbing assault on Muslim politician. Maryam Khan, a Connecticut state representative was assaulted after she attended a service marking Eid al-Adha in downtown Hartford on Wednesday, police and officials said.

A 30-year-old man identified as Andrey Desmond, of New Britain, was arrested, Hartford police said in a news release.

The Atlantic Magazine published a photo essay about Wesaam al-Badry, an Iraqi-born photographer, who uses photography to tell his story and present the resilience and dignity of his family and friends.

Al-Badry’s family fled Iraq due to the Gulf War and ended up in a refugee camp in Saudi Arabia, where he received his first camera. They were eventually relocated to Lincoln, Nebraska. Al-Badry’s photography series, “From Which I Came,” features his family and friends and presents them as resilient and dignified, despite the racism and cultural clash they face.

He aims to showcase their daily lives and present them as individuals rather than imposing stereotypes on them. Al-Badry wants his subjects to see themselves as part of a rich culture, but not archaic figures stuck in the past.

United Voices, the Coalition for Civil Freedoms and partner organizations today announced the launch of "The War on Terror Film Festival" (WOTFF), marking 20 years of the global War on Terror. The WOTFF is a FREE month-long, public virtual event featuring 20 award-winning films that document, explain, and satirize the last 20 years of WOT. Films include Oscar-winning “Citizenfour” and “Taxi to the Dark Side”, the Oscar-nominated “Dirty Wars,” the highly-acclaimed “The Mauritanian,” “Four Lions,” “Fahrenheit 9/11,” “The Feeling of Being Watched,” and more.
