☕ This Wednesday morning, we pulled up to “Coffee With a Cop” at the newly opened Wake Me Shake Me on Upshur St — ☕

Emory Beacon of Light shows up wherever our community gathers, including at the table. We connected alongside community Officer Antoine Lesesene, Officer Pollard, the Metropolitan Police Department 4, Brightwood Family Success Center, CSOSA, a representative of Councilmember Janeese Lewis George, and others — all of us rooted in Ward 4.

EBOL continues to illuminate Pathways to Hope.

Follow us to stay connected to all things EBOL. 💛

✨ BEACON BASKET FAMILY…

Emory Beacon of Light is sharing a glimpse of the work happening out of The Beacon Basket.

For the past two weeks, we’ve been moving nonstop: setting up, serving, connecting neighbors to resources, and making sure folks are cared for with dignity and love. Even when I couldn’t post in real time, the work did not stop.

These photos capture just a piece of what it takes to keep The Beacon Basket going.

If you want to volunteer, partner, or give, send us a message right here and we’ll get you connected.

☕️ COMMUNITY MOMENTS MATTER.

This week, we shared conversation, connection, and care in the neighborhood. Sometimes the most powerful work is simply showing up, listening, and building trust one relationship at a time.

We’re grateful for every partner and every neighbor who makes DC stronger.

Want to be part of what we’re building at Emory Beacon of Light?
Drop a “I’m in” below or message us to learn how to volunteer, partner, or support.

Real support. Real stories. Real community impact.

Every smile here has a journey. Ms. Johnson shared, "This food helps me keep my apartment. I don't have to choose between eating and paying rent anymore. And the people here treat me like family."

Want to see the difference for yourself? Stop by. You belong here. ❤️

🧡 VOLUNTEERS NEEDED: Beacon Basket

Family, we can’t do this without community.

If you can give 1–2 hours on a Saturday morning, you can help a neighbor eat this week.

Volunteer roles:
• packing bags
• greeting neighbors
• setup and cleanup

💙 COMMUNITY GRATITUDE 💙

On January 24, 2026, we were blessed by the generosity of our Jack & Jill of America, Inc. Washington, D.C. Chapter partners and the Emory Fellowship staff, who donated “blessing bags” for our Emory Beacon of Light Beacon Basket.

Each bag was packed with practical care: toothbrushes, toothpaste, deodorant, wipes, water, and snacks. Simple items, but they make a real difference for neighbors who are navigating hard days.

Thank you for showing up with compassion and dignity. Because of partners like you, we keep illuminating pathways to hope, one family at a time.

Want to help us keep these blessing bags stocked? Drop a ❤️ in the comments and we’ll share the easiest ways to support.

🤝 WE’RE BUILDING A STRONGER RESOURCE NETWORK

Beacon Basket is a doorway, not a dead end.

When neighbors come for food, we also help connect them to next steps like:
• community resources
• partner support
• safe referrals

If you’re a local organization, business, school, or clinic and you want to partner with Emory Beacon of Light, drop “PARTNER” in the comments or send us a message.
