Trekking for Kids - TFK

Trekking for Kids - TFK Socially conscious trekkers bringing hope to orphaned and at-risk children around the world. The Trek follows.

Trekking for Kids (TFK), a 501(c)(3), harnesses a traveler's love of adventure and combines it with life-changing improvements on the home of orphaned and at-risk children living in the shadows of iconic trekking destinations. Trekking for Kids takes travelers around the world, wherever adventure awaits; a TFK expedition is an impactful and transformative experience. Before an expedition, Trekker

s raise money from their own communities to donate directly to the sustainable orphanage capital improvement project. Local contractors are hired to do the majority of the work, and Trekkers put the final touches on the project during a work day when they arrive in-country. A field trip, party, and other activities with the children after the Trek create a bond that underscores the beauty of the connection.

Trekking for kids ❤️ Ban San Fan Welfare Center! Over the years we’ve been honored to support this amazing organization on various infrastructure and sustainability projects. Our 2026 Thailand Trek group was delighted, once again, to be welcomed into their family. Ban San Fan will always have a special place in our hearts. Thank you to our wonderful trekkers and donors for all you do to enable the work we do.

After 7 years, TFK is back in Thailand on a family trek. After a few days enjoying the beaches around Railay, we spent two fun-filed days with the children at the Banbangpru School, near Khao Sok National Park. Special thanks to Our Jungle Camp Life Center who helped organize the project, the staff at the school and, of course, to all our amazing volunteers and donors who raised funds to purchase 10 new computers and desks for the school’s computer lab.

Happy New Year!
If you would like to make a tax-deductible year end donation that will make a difference, donate today on our website under OSF (Orphanage Sustainability Fund) and your donation in its entirety will go to support our trusted partner, Centro Astalli in Trento, Italy.

Centro Astalli provides apartments for refugee mothers and their children and they are asking our help to furnish an apartment with beds, wardrobes, and kitchen supplies for a refugee family. TFK worked with Centro Astalli in 2021 on a similar project.

TFK will match the first $1000 in donations this week.

Ending a trek is bittersweet: getting back to our loved ones, but also saying "see you on a future trek" to old and new trekking friends. On the final days in Vietnam, the trekkers got to visit villages, cruise Ha Long Bay, cycle in the countryside, visit historical and spiritual sites, and enjoyed new food dishes! THANK YOU again to our trekkers and their donors for the gift of their their effort and donations to improve the facilities for the kids in the mountain villages of North Vietnam!

Trekkers got to do a little cycling while visiting fishing villages in Cát Bá island.

Our trek's final day of hiking took our trekkers to Đồi cỏ Ba Quáng (Ba Quang Grass Hill), a beautiful spot with a different look vs other hikes during our trek.  It was a great spot to end the hiking part of the trek and do a couple of important things in our trekking tradition:  the banner shot and the trekkers leap!  Next, our trekkers will enjoy a couple of days of R&R and cultural visits.

Yesterday, the trekkers visited the Nguom Ngao cave and the incredible Bam Gioc Waterfall which runs between the China and Vietnam. In between, the team enjoyed walks/hikes along villages, rice terraces and along the Quây Sơn River. It was a beautiful day!

Yesterday and today our trekkers visited the 3 schools being supported through this trek, near Cao Bằng, Vietnam. At the first school, we were greeted by the kids and staff, and then we saw the initial stages of construction of the new bathroom facilities for the school.  At the second school, we built the new equipment for the kids to use as part of their recreation/play time.  Some of the kids got to try it out, and they were excited!  Finally, at the third school, after being welcomed with three different dances from the kids (photos will be posted soon!), we saw the almost-finished (and badly-needed) new bathroom facilities which will make the kids feel safer using them, and provide a more hygienic environment. Of course, we got to do some activities with the kids before moving on to build their new recreation equipment.  Thanks to our trekkers for their energy and efforts around the kids and the projects. And, of course, to their donors for making these projects possible!

It is our hope that our treks, beyond our main goal of serving children in the places where we trek, provide our trekkers with an increased understanding of the places we visit. Today, we visited a couple of villages where we learned about local agricultural practices (rice, sweet potatoes, arrow root, corn, lettuce, etc.) and crafts like paper- and knife-making which diversify economic livelihood in the area. Tomorrow, we will share about the school projects we have been supporting!

Yesterday was the first trekking day in our 20th anniversary trek in northern Vietnam! One of our largest groups of trekkers in our 20-year history hit the trail on Ba Bé National Park on north Vietnam for a 2+ hr hike. Our trekkers -and us- would like to especially thank our families and our donors for their support of our work, which begins today - everyone is excited to visit the schools and meet the kids!
