In an address at the National Press Club in Washington, D.C., AFT President Randi Weingarten unveiled a new 10-point plan to boost teaching and learning in the AI era.

Weingarten emphasized the need to focus more on human connection, critical thinking, collaboration and hands-on learning, while warning of the dangers AI and screens in classrooms pose without proper oversight and guardrails—like leading students to “offload” critical thinking to a chatbot.
