Namati advances social and environmental justice by building a movement of people to know, use, and shape the law. Namati works in partnership with community paralegals in five countries. The paralegals support their communities to protect common lands, enforce environmental law, and secure basic rights to healthcare and citizenship. Together with the communities we serve, we strive to translate the lessons from this grassroots experience into positive, large-scale changes to laws and systems. Globally, we convene the Grassroots Justice Network — over 3,000 groups and 12,000 individuals from every part of the world. Members are learning from one another, advocating together, and joining forces to bring justice everywhere.

Young people around the world are shaping global movements to build justice, trust, and lasting peace worldwide.

Last month, Grassroots Justice Network member Diana Imbert joined other youth advocates for a panel discussion at the High-Level Political Forum in New York City. They explored the role of young people as co-architects of SDG 4.7, SDG 16, and the Youth, Peace and Security agenda.

Diana drew on her experience as Co-Executive Director of Defying Legal Gravity to explain how non-formal education can help societies address fairness, build trust in justice institutions, and develop the civic agency people need to shape the systems affecting their lives.

More than 60% of Kenya’s land mass is occupied by Indigenous Peoples and local communities. However, despite the promises made in the Community Land Act 10 years ago, most communities do not have legal ownership of their land.

Delay is no longer acceptable. That’s why Namati Kenya joined partners to launch the Sajili Ardhi ya Jamii campaign calling on the government of Kenya to register community lands now.
