Sometimes, one experience is enough to make the world feel a whole lot bigger. 🦅💙

When Marquis arrived at Teton Raptor Center through City Kids’ Job Experience Trainee program, everything was unfamiliar. But as the summer went on, curiosity took over. He asked questions, connected with the staff, and one afternoon, held one of the Center’s birds of prey.

His face lit up.

For 30 years, City Kids and our partners have created opportunities for young people to step into new environments, discover something unexpected, and realize there is more out there to explore.

Thank you to our incredible supporters and longtime partners like Teton Raptor Center for helping young people see just how big their world can be.

This summer, Exum guide Morgan stood on the summit of the Grand Teton with two young women she’d watched grow through City Kids for six years.
She says she doesn’t cry on that mountain.
This time, she did. 💙

Because the summit wasn’t the biggest achievement—it was watching two young people discover they were capable of something they never thought possible.
That’s what City Kids is all about.

For 30 years, City Kids and the Jackson community have grown together. Through partnerships with organizations like Exum, local businesses, mentors, volunteers, and donors, young people from DC discover confidence, courage, and possibility—while becoming part of the fabric of Jackson itself.

Two best friends. One unforgettable tradition. 💙

For 30 years, City Kids has watched young people stand on this summit, proving to themselves that they can do hard things.

This year two high schoolers, Naiya and Aziza, added their names to that legacy. From the 40-mile Teton Crest Trail to the 13,775-foot summit of the Grand Teton, they embraced every challenge with courage, grit, and heart.

Here’s to friendship, perseverance, and becoming the newest climbers in a tradition 30 years strong. 🏔️💙

This milestone was made possible by our incredible community of supporters, dedicated team, and partners like Exum Guides — thank you for joining us on this journey and many to come!

Pictures from the Rangers’ first summer in Wyoming always hit a little different 🥹 From making their first memories at Broken Arrow Ranch to taking in views bigger than anything they may have seen before in Grand Teton and Yellowstone National Parks. We can’t wait to see the rest of their journey with City Kids unfold!

City Kids invests in DC youth through a seven-year program that helps young people discover new places, build confidence and community, and expand their personal possibilities. Follow our adventures on social and learn more at citykidsdc.org. 💙

More SYEP adventures from the last couple of weeks! 💙

During DC Is Part of Me Week, participants visited the Charles Sumner Museum & Archives and the Federal Circuit Center of Innovation & Law, where they took part in a mock trial and met Judge Tiffany Cunningham.

For How You Do That? Week, they explored different career paths through visits to the Amazon Web Services Skills Center, Area 2 Farms, and more.

These experiences are just some of the many ways SYEP helps young people connect with their community, explore future possibilities, and build skills that will last far beyond the summer. Thank you to all our partners that help make this happen!👏✨

Did you know our JETs (high school participants) have the opportunity to travel far & wide through City Kids’ partner programs? 🌎✈️

This summer, Treasure journeyed to Alaska with Wilderness Adventures, where she experienced stunning wilderness and new challenges. Swipe through for a glimpse of her incredible adventure! 💙

From the Grand Teton to the cover of a national impact report 🏔️💙

We’re honored to have a photo from City Kids’ 2024 Grand Climb featured on the cover of the REI Cooperative Action Fund’s Impact Report.

Pictured are alumni Kat, Osaro, and Don’Zeal alongside two City Kids staff members before their ascent of the Grand Teton—a 13,775-foot climb that is part of a City Kids tradition now spanning 14 years and more than 40 participants.

For more than a decade, the REI Cooperative Action Fund has supported City Kids through grants and in-kind donations. That kind of long-term partnership helps us keep showing up for young people year after year.

Thank you, REI Cooperative Action Fund, for believing in DC youth and our mission! Head to reifund.org/ourimpact to check out the full report.

Meanwhile, back in DC… ☀️💙

Some of our participants have been spending their summer with City Kids through the District’s Summer Youth Employment Program (SYEP)! Through hands-on experiences, they have the opportunity to explore career interests, give back to their communities, focus on personal wellness, and much more—all while earning a paycheck.

Here are a few snapshots from Food Justice Week when they volunteered in several community farms & gardens🌱📸

We’re so proud of the ways our participants continue to grow, lead, and invest in their futures. 👏✨

We are SO back. 💙🏔️

Our Mountaineers are officially settled into life at Broken Arrow Ranch: reconnecting with friends, mentors, and cabin mates, pushing themselves on backcountry adventures, and reminding all of us just how much joy summer camp brings 🥹

Last year, they arrived as first-time campers. When we asked about their favorite part of camp, their answers were as unique as they were— cabin games, their favorite horse, finally getting to live out their outdoorsy dreams, or a competitive game of City Kids 9-Square.

Whatever the answer, these are the moments that last a lifetime. To our staff, volunteers, mentors, partners, donors, and everyone following along— thank you for making these experiences possible. Here’s to another .💙

✈️ Just 2 days until flights touch down at Broken Arrow Ranch! But we need YOUR help to make it happen.

We’re feeling all kinds of nostalgic looking back at these moments from Session 3 last summer 😍

Our campers can’t wait to get back to Jackson Hole—to reconnect with friends and mentors, sleep under the stars, explore the backcountry, and experience the joy, adventure, and freedom that camp brings.

With just two days left in our , we’re still short on funds to cover transportation, gear, and getting our campers to Wyoming. Help make this summer possible by donating today at citykidsdc.org/donate. 💙
