🍂 From mountain trails to river tales, City Kids are making the most of fall adventures!

Last week, the Mountaineers hit the trail for their first overnight backpacking trip in Shenandoah National Park, taking on new challenges and making memories under the stars. Meanwhile, Elite & Leadership took to the Potomac River for a day of kayaking and building confidence on the water.

🌄 30 years of City Kids. 30 years of Old Bill’s. 30 years of youth discovering what’s possible.

This summer was full of those moments.

Young people exploring wild places. Broadening horizons. Building bonds. Trying new things. Getting a little uncomfortable. Laughing a lot. And making discoveries about themselves along the way.

This is just a glimpse of summer 2026—but it’s also a glimpse of what 30 years of City Kids can mean: a lifetime of memories, possibilities, and moments that stay with you.

🌊 For 28 of City Kids’ 30 years, Rendezvous River Sports has been part of the journey.
What makes their partnership special? Time.

A City Kids whitewater progression can last four days—long enough for the nerves to settle, mistakes to happen, confidence to grow, and young people to discover they can keep going when the river gets tough.

“City Kids trips are one of the most looked-forward-to trips of our instructors,” says Max, who has been part of Rendezvous for 15 years. Because they aren’t just teaching kayaking. They’re watching young people discover what they’re capable of.

Sometimes you make it through the rapid. Sometimes the river serves up a little “slice of humble pie.” Either way, you get back in your boat and keep going.

That’s the power of a partnership that goes deep. 💙

When one City Kids participant finished their internship at CLB Architects this summer, they said: “I could see myself as an architect.”

For 30 years, Jackson businesses and organizations have opened their doors to City Kids, helping young people explore careers, build confidence, and discover possibilities they may never have imagined. And along the way, those same partners tell us they gain something too: fresh perspectives, meaningful connections, and a reminder of why their work matters.

📸When Michael visited the National Museum of Wildlife Art this summer, he wasn’t sure what a museum could have to do with his future. He knew he was interested in photography—but where could that interest take him?

From talking photography and social media with staff to getting a behind-the-scenes look inside the museum’s vault, Michael discovered that one interest can lead to countless career paths.

The staff welcomed his questions, shared their passion, and saw their own work through fresh eyes. That’s the power of partnership.

Sometimes, one experience is enough to make the world feel a whole lot bigger. 🦅💙

When Marquis arrived at Teton Raptor Center through City Kids’ Job Experience Trainee program, everything was unfamiliar. But as the summer went on, curiosity took over. He asked questions, connected with the staff, and one afternoon, held one of the Center’s birds of prey.

His face lit up.

For 30 years, City Kids and our partners have created opportunities for young people to step into new environments, discover something unexpected, and realize there is more out there to explore.

This summer, Exum guide Morgan stood on the summit of the Grand Teton with two young women she’d watched grow through City Kids for six years.
She says she doesn’t cry on that mountain.
This time, she did. 💙

Because the summit wasn’t the biggest achievement—it was watching two young people discover they were capable of something they never thought possible.
That’s what City Kids is all about.

For 30 years, City Kids and the Jackson community have grown together. Through partnerships with organizations like Exum, local businesses, mentors, volunteers, and donors, young people from DC discover confidence, courage, and possibility—while becoming part of the fabric of Jackson itself.

Two best friends. One unforgettable tradition. 💙

For 30 years, City Kids has watched young people stand on this summit, proving to themselves that they can do hard things.

This year two high schoolers, Naiya and Aziza, added their names to that legacy. From the 40-mile Teton Crest Trail to the 13,775-foot summit of the Grand Teton, they embraced every challenge with courage, grit, and heart.

Here’s to friendship, perseverance, and becoming the newest climbers in a tradition 30 years strong. 🏔️💙

Pictures from the Rangers’ first summer in Wyoming always hit a little different 🥹 From making their first memories at Broken Arrow Ranch to taking in views bigger than anything they may have seen before in Grand Teton and Yellowstone National Parks. We can’t wait to see the rest of their journey with City Kids unfold!
