AFGE Honors Federal Nurses

AFGE Honors Federal Nurses AFGE honors the work of nurses working throughout the federal government. Throughout history, nurses have been an essential part of the American landscape.

AFGE has nurses in the public sector working long, hard hours accommodating our nation’s servicemen, veterans, and prison systems. Our nurses are forced to work overtime and end up having to care for more patients than one person should. This is detrimental for both nurses and patients as nurses can only be attentive to so many people at one time, resulting in lesser level of care than what patien

ts deserve. With such vital and strenuous jobs, you would think that our public sector nurses would at least have the same rights and benefits afforded to the rest of the federal government. Unfortunately, this is not the case. Did you know that in addition to receiving low wages and being worked overtime, nurses in the public sector currently do not have collective bargaining rights? This startling fact is an injustice to these diligent workers and undermines our nurse’s level of importance, competence, and dedication. AFGE will spend National Nurse’s Week 2011 raising public awareness and fighting for nurse’s rights. Tell us your story on AFGE’s National Nurse’s Week page.
