We're powering on ahead through March! We're excited to be honing our programs' focus on early childhood education, parents, and indigenous community leaders.

This month, we're excited for our next session of Take and Play at Educare Washington, DC on March 20th, as well as prepping for the very first cohort of our Promise Equity Fellowship in April, focusing on longtime community leaders indigenous to underserved DC neighborhoods.

One community leader who will be participating in the program expresses his excitement: “This here fellowship is a new day, and a new light, where community leaders can work together!"

This week, we're continuing to work with Ward 7 community leaders and elders to plan our upcoming Promise Equity Fellows event, as well as our next series of Sankofa Elders' Teas!

We support the longtime residents and community advocates of the neighborhoods we serve. These are the people who persevere tirelessly to build racial equity and to end poverty in their communities day in and day out. The Promise Equity Fellowship is designed to meet their needs as leaders and build their capacity to flourish in their service to their community.

For the month of February, DCPNI has partnered with Givehero on a fitness and giving challenge that can help spread the word about DCPNI while also helping members of our community achieve health and fitness goals.

Here is how it works: All month long, our partner Givhero is matching the first $10 supporters raise for us, through friends and family, in the Givhero app...
Here are the steps:

1) Set a goal in Givhero: Run, walk, bike, swim, climb stairs. Go all out or take it slow. Or set goals for health, such as controlling your blood sugar or tracking your heart rate.

2) Connect a tracker: An app like Google Fit or Health for iOS. Or a device like Fitbit or OneTouch.

3) Select your favorite charity (DCPNI)

4) Invite friends and family to sponsor you. They make a pledge to donate when you achieve your goal.

5) Optional: Inspire your sponsors with your own pledge and donation.

We were thrilled to be at the fantastic DC Alliance of Youth Advocates' Youth Advocacy for Action Summit today, represented by our executive director, Mary Brown! The event was a stellar example of the inclusiveness and intersectionality made possible when we all come together to serve the best interests of the District's youths.

Hats off to DCAYA for this amazing event!

If you're looking for a great cause to wrap up your year-end giving, consider supporting our Promise Equity Fellowship (PEF) program!

2018's PEF cohort will focus on capacity-building and self-care skills for longtime indigenous community leaders who have been working towards racial equity and the ending of poverty in their neighborhoods.

A donation of $250 will provide books and workshop supplies to one of these hardworking leaders through all of 2018! Show your support for them by giving today:
