We had a great day in Washington, D.C. for the Coalition for Community Solar Access Annual Summit!

We connected with community solar leaders, advocates, and innovators from across the country, all united around one goal: making clean, affordable energy accessible to everyone!

I installed rooftop solar thinking it would just lower my electric bill.

And it did, today I pay about $8/month just to stay connected to the grid. But what I didn’t expect was how much bigger this would become.

After adding a home battery, my house can now keep the lights on during outages thanks to solar recharging it during the day.

Then I learned about Virtual Power Plants (VPPs). These programs connect homes like mine so utilities can tap into stored energy during times of high demand. Instead of turning on expensive, fossil fuel-powered “peaker plants,” they can rely on clean energy from neighborhoods like mine.

It’s a simple idea with big impact.

We 👏 Beat 👏Dominion 👏

The Virginia State Corporation Commission sided with solar advocates and ratepayers, officially ruling against Dominion’s proposal to cut its net metering program.

Our community stepped up like never before to gain this win — it belongs to you!

Natural disasters can strike anywhere, but communities are finding innovative ways to prepare: Resilience hubs! ☀️

These are safe gathering places providing essential resources like energy (often powered by solar & battery storage), food, and water, helping communities bounce back faster after a crisis.

Solar United Neighbors partnered with ReImagine Appalachia to host a vital webinar exploring the development of these hubs, especially in areas transitioning from fossil fuels.

Natural disasters can strike anywhere, sometimes forcing people from their homes. And when they do, public buildings or houses of worship are a safe gathering place. Now, some communities are taking this to the next level by making these places resilience hubs.

Rising energy demand and extreme weather are straining our aging energy grid. This makes electricity more expensive and less.

A new report from The Pew Charitable Trusts identifies a solution: Distributed energy resources (DERs). Devices such as rooftop solar, batteries, EVs, and smart thermostats can generate, store, and manage electricity close to a home or business.

Pew’s DER Policy Playbook helps state policymakers and regulators scale distributed energy across the country.

The Playbook recommends lawmakers and regulators pursue solutions that accomplish three goals:

- Integrate DERs into utility planning and procurement
- Reduce barriers to DERs permitting and grid access
- Strengthen community resilience with DER solutions

Storm season is coming and your solar panels are ready. ⛈️

One of the most common questions we get: "Will my solar system hold up during a hurricane?"

The answer from solar homeowners who've been through it? Absolutely!

Solar systems are built to withstand wind, hail, snow, and more with strict permitting and building codes ensuring every installation can handle whatever mother nature throws at it.

Don't wait for storm season to find out. Learn more: https://bit.ly/4fzYMc8

Summer is fast approaching, and with it comes storm season. If you’re considering going solar, you may have questions about how your system will hold up to heavy winds and…

When Hurricane Ida knocked out power in New Orleans for two weeks, Cornerstone NOLA experienced it firsthand.

A state senator offered them a gas generator powerful enough to power a microwave and a coffee maker two miles from the nearest gas station but they knew there had to be a better way.

So they built one.

Working through Together New Orleans, Cornerstone United and local partners created the Community Lighthouse Project.

More than a dozen solar-powered resilience centers across New Orleans that provide shelter, air conditioning, medicine storage, and community connection when storms hit.

This is what community power looks like. Learn more: https://bit.ly/4dBTnP7
