Every JET journey starts with a single connection.

For hundreds of incoming JETs each year, the NEXT JET Mentorship Program provides that first connection. It offers guidance, encouragement, and a welcoming community before they even arrive in Japan.

Your support helps us continue providing these meaningful experiences for future participants.

With less than two weeks left, every individual donation in August will go directly toward sustaining and growing our NEXT JET Programs. As a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit, all donations to USJETAA are tax-deductible.

If NEXT JET, JETAA, or the JET community has made a difference in your life, consider paying it forward.

📸 August Photo of the Month

Congratulations to current JET Elissa Jezl (Miyazaki, 2025–Present) for capturing this incredible view from inside Mizonokuchi Cave in Kagoshima.

Looking out from the cave's darkness, a shrine and friends await at the end of the tunnel. A truly magical perspective!

Have a favorite JET photo? Submit it for a chance to be featured as a future Photo of the Month!

🏮 Obon (お盆) has begun in Japan.

For many JETs, Obon is a chance to experience one of Japan's most meaningful cultural traditions and to witness the warmth of local communities coming together.

Across Japan, people return to their hometowns, visit family graves, make offerings, and gather for Bon Odori dances and local festivals that celebrate both remembrance and community.

👇 We'd love to hear your Obon memories, whether in Japan, at home, or at your local chapter.

💙 Help the NEXT JET Mentorship Program continue to grow!

For the past three years, the NEXT JET Mentorship Program has helped incoming JETs begin their journey with confidence by connecting them with experienced alumni before they depart for Japan.

This year, more than 500 departing JETs (that's nearly half of the 2026 U.S. JET cohort!) joined the program to ask questions, build friendships, and become part of the JET community before even boarding their flight.

Now, we're asking our alumni community to help ensure the next generation has the same opportunity.

Every individual donation made during August will directly support the NEXT JET Mentorship Program and help us continue providing mentorship, resources, and meaningful connections for future participants.

USJETAA is a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit, and your donation is tax-deductible.

💙 Donate today and help the next generation of JETs start their journey strong. https://www.usjetaa.org/donate

🏔️ Happy Mountain Day (山の日) from USJETAA!

Celebrated each year on August 11, Mountain Day is a time to appreciate Japan's breathtaking mountains and the many ways they shape the country's culture, history, and daily life. From the iconic slopes of Mt. Fuji to the quiet hiking trails tucked away in the countryside and Tateyama in the Alps, Japan's mountains have long inspired adventure, reflection, and a deep connection with nature.

For many JETs, some of the most memorable moments in Japan happen outdoors—whether it's climbing a mountain at sunrise, discovering a hidden shrine along a forest path, or taking in spectacular views from a local peak.

🏞️ Tell us in the comments: What's your favorite mountain, hiking trail, or scenic viewpoint in Japan?
