Did you know at least 83% of people facing a family law matter in court do not have a lawyer? (Reported by the DC Access to Justice Commission.) Often, it is because the cost of hiring a lawyer is out of reach. At DC Refers, we think that should change and we are doing our part to improve access to our legal system.

DC Refers helps to bridge the access to justice gap through a community of lawyers and mediators offering reduced fees for legal services to people who make too much to qualify for free legal services but not enough to afford representation.

As we commemorate , DC Refers celebrates our nation's journey towards a more perfect union.

At DC Refers, we work to do our part by improving access to our legal system. Did you know that in 75%-90% of court cases across the country, at least one party does not have legal representation?

We have a goal to raise $25,000 through our 2026 Better Together Summer Campaign. Today it kicks off with a challenge to raise $2500 over the Independence Day weekend.
