It was a pleasure having Eli 洋一 Leadham join the World Bank Inspection Panel this summer. Eli brought his passion for human rights and accountability, along with a sharp analytical perspective. During his internship, Eli supported the Panel in data analysis, quantitative research and data visualization.

On July 29, 2026, the Board of Executive Directors of the World Bank approved the Inspection Panel’s Second Report and Recommendation on a Request for Inspection pertaining to the India: Green National Highway Corridor Project. In this report, the Panel recommended not to investigate after determining that the concerns raised by Requesters were satisfactorily addressed through actions undertaken by World Bank Management and the Borrower. The Requesters agreed with this decision.

The World Bank Group has announced recruitment for the position of Director General of the new World Bank Group Independent Accountability Mechanism (WBG IAM). The Director General will be appointed by, and report to, the WBG Boards under the oversight of the Committee on Development Effectiveness (CODE) and will be independent of WBG management.

The Director General will lead a new, single WBG IAM building on decades of operational experience, institutional knowledge, and best practices of the IFC/MIGA Office of the Compliance Advisor Ombudsman (CAO), the WB Inspection Panel (IPN) and WB Dispute Resolution Service (DRS). The WBG IAM will serve as an independent and accessible forum for people who believe that they have been, or are likely to be, adversely affected by a WBG-financed operation and will discharge its mandate through three functions: Dispute Resolution, Compliance, and Advisory.

The appointment will be for a nonrenewable period of five (5) years, and the Director General will not be employed by the WBG following the end of the term. Deadline for applications is September 3, 2026.

Effective August 2, 2026, Ibrahim Pam, Chairperson of the The World Bank Inspection Panel, began serving concurrently as Acting Director-General of the Office of the Compliance Advisor Ombudsman (CAO). He will serve in this capacity until a new Director General of the World Bank Group Independent Accountability Mechanism (WBG IAM) is appointed.

It’s “𝐁𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐘𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐊𝐢𝐝𝐬 𝐭𝐨 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐖𝐨𝐫𝐥𝐝 𝐁𝐚𝐧𝐤 𝐃𝐚𝐲,” and we were delighted to welcome Dario and Alessio Laraia, sons of AM Executive Secretary Luigi Laraia, along with their friend Joao Samso Waltrick, to the World Bank Inspection Panel office.

Dario, Alessio, and Joao shared their day’s activities and asked thoughtful questions about the Panel’s work. We were especially impressed by how quickly they grasped what we do and articulated it in their own words.

In the afternoon, Sylvia Bonareri Omboga Mwangi from the Bank’s Treasury visited with her children, Hailey and Jeremy. They watched a Panel documentary on a case we investigated and asked the Panel Chairperson, Ibrahim Pam, insightful questions about our process and staff backgrounds in the accountability field.

It was indeed a pleasure to host them and a great reminder of the bright future ahead!
