Comp Time Option Approved for This Weekend’s
Freedom 250 Grand Prix Deployment

Members,

The Department has confirmed that members assigned to this weekend’s major deployment for the Freedom 250 Grand Prix will have the option to receive compensatory time in lieu of overtime pay for extra hours worked.

The Union has worked with the Department in an effort to provide this flexibility for those working the Saturday (August 22) practice/qualifying and Sunday (August 23) race operations.

How to elect and document

Follow the standard process:

Complete and submit an SF-1130 for the extra hours.

Have it signed/approved by your detail commander or watch commander.

Note the event (Freedom 250 Grand Prix / IndyCar deployment) in the remarks section.
Submit it to your time-and-attendance clerk promptly.

NOTE: If you are on day off and request comp time, it will be paid out as 1.5x comp and .5 in money. (Alpha/Bravo deployments pay 2x for members on day off)

If you run into any issues with approval, processing, or coding, or just have questions, contact your shop steward or the Union immediately so we can assist.

Stay safe out there this weekend. Hydrate, watch the heat, look out for one another, and adhere to the 18-hour rule. Thank you for the professional job you always do on these large events.

Today, we recognize an important anniversary in the history of the Fraternal Order of Police in the District of Columbia.

Our roots date back to October 1, 1966, when District of Columbia Lodge #1 was officially chartered. On August 19, 1983, our Lodge was formally constituted as Jerrard F. Young Lodge #1, forever carrying the name and honoring the sacrifice of MPD Officer Jerrard F. Young, who made the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty on May 21, 1971.

Today, we proudly continue that tradition as the Jerrard F. Young District of Columbia State Lodge.

More than six decades after our founding, we remain grateful to those who built this organization and proud to carry forward the name of a hero whose legacy will never be forgotten.

Rest in peace, Officer Jerrard F. Young. 💙

Settlement of 4 Scheduling Violations are in Member's Paychecks

The Union previously sent the membership an email which announced settlements in Class and Group Grievances filed by the Union regarding scheduling violations for prior deployments.

Members should have payouts in their checks for scheduling violations that occurred during the below four (4) teletype deployments. The total payout is listed below.

1. Teletype TT-06-059-24 (2024 4th of July & NATO Deployment)
2. Teletype TT-11-007-24 & 11-020-24 (2024 Election)
3. Teletype TT-05-017-25 (World Pride)
4. Teletype TT-05-018-25 (Army 250th)

Total Payout: $1,494,623.92

Members should see a line in their PeopleSoft paystub dated 08/12/26. This check will be for "14DR" (Fourteen Day Rule) pay.

In the settlement, MPD agreed to pay ALL affected members an additional HALF TIME PAY for ALL hours worked on their regularly assigned day off for these deployments. This additional half time will be paid on top of any overtime compensation anyone was already paid.

If members have any questions about the accuracy of their payments, please provide your Chief Steward with a screen shot of your "14DR" pay with your name and assignment.

Thank you to all the members who signed onto multiple grievances and to every other member for your continued support as we work to enforce the terms of our Collective Bargaining Agreement.

For members who are retired or separated from MPD: You are included in the payouts and you should expect to receive a hard check in the mail or a direct deposit. Please make sure your correct information is on file with HR.

USTICE FOR SERGEANT TONY MASON JR.

Nearly nine years after Sergeant Tony Mason Jr. was murdered while off duty in Baltimore, the man responsible has been convicted of first-degree murder, conspiracy, and related charges.

Sergeant Mason proudly served the Metropolitan Police Department for 17 years. Although no verdict can erase the pain felt by his family, friends, and fellow officers, we hope this conviction provides them with some measure of peace.

The DC Police Union is grateful to the investigators and prosecutors who refused to allow this case to be forgotten and remained committed to securing justice.

Sergeant Mason’s service and sacrifice will never be forgotten. 💙

We remember Officer Terry Lamont Bennett for his dedicated service, unwavering commitment, and the lasting impact he made on the Metropolitan Police Department and the residents of the District of Columbia.

The DC Police Union joins in honoring his legacy and extends our deepest gratitude to all who continue to serve with the same courage and dedication.

We will never forget.

Happy Fourth of July from the DC Police Union.

Today, while our nation celebrates freedom and independence, thousands of our members are once again away from their families, working long hours in difficult conditions to keep the District safe.

Our members are the backbone of public safety in Washington, D.C. They answer the calls, stand the posts, protect the crowds, and carry the burden every time this city hosts a major event.

The DC Police Union is proud to stand with the men and women of the Metropolitan Police Department who continue to show up, sacrifice, and serve with professionalism and strength.
