The Traumatic Brain Injury Model System (TBIMS) Program began in 1987 to improve care and outcomes for individuals with TBI. The TBI Model System centers provide a multidisciplinary system of rehabilitation care, including emergency medical, acute medical, and post-acute services to improve care and outcomes for people with TBI. In addition to providing direct services, these centers play a pivota

l role in building the national capacity for high-quality treatment and research serving persons with TBI, their families, and the communities in which they reside. The TBIMS Program is funded by the National Institute on Disability, Independent Living, and Rehabilitation Research (NIDILRR), a Center within the Administration for Community Living (ACL), U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), to improve care and outcomes for individuals with TBI. The Model System Knowledge Translation Center (MSKTC) is national center that translates health information into easy to understand language and formats for patients with spinal cord injury, traumatic brain injury, and burn injury. The MSKTC works closely with researchers in the BMS to develop free, research-based resources for people living with TBI and their supporters.
