Please help us give a warm welcome to seven new families at The Salvation Army Eliza Shirley Center for Women and Children in Washington DC!

We’re so excited to welcome these mothers and their little ones into our family and walk alongside them as they learn, grow, and build brighter futures together. Through supportive services, life-skills classes, education, employment support, and a strong community of peers, families are equipped to move forward with confidence.

WELCOME HOME 🏡

On the 25th anniversary of September 11, The Salvation Army National Capital Area Command gathered at Lady Bird Johnson Park to pray, remember, and honor.

Salvation Army officers from across the Potomac Division joined Commissioners Merle and Dawn Heatwole, along with National Capital Area Commanders Majors Todd and Wilma Mason, as we remembered those who lost their lives and reflected on The Salvation Army’s response here in our nation’s capital following the attack on the Pentagon.

In this peaceful place, we honored the lives lost, those who responded, and the spirit of service that brought our community together 25 years ago.

The memories remain. The stories remain. And we will never forget. The Salvation Army USA Salvation Army Potomac

In honor of the 25th remembrance of 9/11, The Salvation Army National Capital Area Command was proud to support the The 9.11 Promise race, a meaningful journey that begins with prayer at the Pentagon and continues more than 240 miles, all the way to the World Trade Center Memorial in New York City.

Before the race began, our Emergency Disaster Services (EDS) teams were on the grounds of the Pentagon at 3 a.m., providing a morning kickoff breakfast with hot coffee for nearly 100 athletes and support teams as they prepared for the journey ahead.

We were honored to have Mr. Timothy Dill, Assistant Secretary of War for Manpower and Reserve Affairs, join us to send off the runners as they began their journey.
Along the route, runners and support teams will sleep in local firehouses and stop along the way to say thank you to first responders, hear stories from those who remember that day, share fellowship, and honor the lives and sacrifices of those who were lost.
