Inspired by World Press Freedom Day, BPIA Colin Powell Leadership Cohort member Troy Blackwell Jr. reflects on the important relationship between leadership, media ethics, and public trust.

Drawing from his experience in federal government, global communications, and his studies at Columbia University, Troy explores how ethical communication helps strengthen transparency, accountability, and informed public discourse. As he notes, leadership is not simply about authority, it is about creating environments where truth can be spoken, questions can be asked, and diverse viewpoints can be thoughtfully considered.

We are proud to highlight members of the BPIA community who are contributing to important conversations at the intersection of communications, leadership, and global affairs.

Africa Day is commemorated on May 25 each year, but at BPIA, our celebration of Africa continues every day.

We honor the continent’s history, cultures, innovation, and global influence not just on one day, but through the stories we share, the partnerships we build, and the communities we engage.

A special shout out to our partner AfroFuture for their continued work in showcasing the beauty, excellence, and creativity of Africa while strengthening connections across the continent and the diaspora.
