Talk about an assist! 🏀

The Washington Mystics showed up big for students across our region this back-to-school season. Team employees joined us at to fill 500 backpacks with school supplies. They later packed 250 more supply and snack kits, each with an encouraging note from forward Kiki Iriafen, who also donated Skechers socks to students.

The Mystics also donated $10,000 to support DMV students. Thank you, Mystics, for helping students start the school year ready to shoot their shot! 💙

United Way NCA was proud to partner with Sen. Alsobrooks and MedStar Health on a discussion and community fair dedicated to the physical, mental, and emotional health of men, connecting them with the resources and support available to them.

Our new ALICE data shows more than 700,000 households—nearly 1 in 3—across our region are living below the ALICE Threshold. These are neighbors who work hard and still can't cover the basics such as housing, child care, food, and transportation.

Some numbers are too important to overlook. The Afro shared our new ALICE data, which show nearly 1 in 3 households across the National Capital Area can't afford the basics.

That’s 32.5% (718,709) of households, many of them working hard and still falling short on housing, childcare, food, and transportation.

ALICE (Asset Limited, Income Constrained, Employed) neighbors are hardworking people, like childcare workers, cashiers, and home health aides, who earn above the poverty line but still come up short each month.

United Way NCA is using this data to build real solutions for a more equitable, accessible region.
