School's out. But hunger doesn't take a summer break. ๐ŸŒž

When school's out and the cafeteria close, kids across the National Capital Area lose a meal they count on. For ALICE families already stretched thin, summer can mean impossible choices between groceries and bills.

Across the National Capital Area, there are many food pantries throughout our communities to support ALICE families.

We showed up, rolled up our sleeves, and got to work. ๐Ÿฅชโ˜€๏ธ๐ŸŒพ

This week, United Way of the National Capital Area partnered with United Way Worldwide for United Way Day of Action, a global day of volunteerism bringing together the United Way network together to strengthen communities from the ground up.

Our volunteers spent the day:

๐ŸŽ’ Assembling summer fun kits for kids

๐Ÿฅช Making sandwiches and meals for neighbors experiencing homelessness

๐ŸŒฑ Getting their hands in the soil at a local farm, helping bring fresh produce to those who need it most

From the lunchroom to the field this is what community feels like.
United is the Way and this week, we proved it.

Our partnership with Prince George's County Public Schools is bringing primary care, behavioral health services, and urgent care directly onto school campuses through School Based Health Centers (SBHCs). No insurance barrier. No transportation challenge. No parent missing work just to get their child seen.

This is what health equity looks like in action. And it's only possible because of people who believe every student deserves to be healthy, present, and ready to learn.

We've successfully opened four SBHCs across Prince George's County and have three more centers are on the way! Your support will help us get there.

Give today and help us bring care to every student who needs it ๐Ÿ’™: https://bit.ly/3POWgod

"I never graduated from anything so this is like my high school graduation. I did 10 years in prison and one of the things that led me to prison was my dads inability to know how to be a dad. I didn't want to be who my father was to me to my children, and I know I couldn't do that with my own knowledge and on my own willpower." - Wendell Whren, Black Fatherhood Blueprint Graduate

The Black Fatherhood Blueprint gives fathers the resources and support to break cycles and build something betterโ€”for themselves and for the next generation.

United Way of the National Capital Area is proud to be part of that journey. ๐Ÿ’™ Learn more about the Black Fatherhood Blueprint: https://bit.ly/4ogpRTX

On June 19, 1865, two and a half years after the Emancipation Proclamation, slaves in Galveston, Texas, finally received word of their freedom.

Juneteenth is a celebration of liberation. But also a reminder that freedom and economic opportunity must go hand in hand.

United Way of the National Capital Area works every day to open pathways to financial security for our hardest-working neighbors; because freedom without economic stability is still out of reach.

Happy Juneteenth. ๐Ÿ–คโค๏ธ๐Ÿ’š

United Way of the National Capital Area's 2025 Annual Report is here, and it reflects something bigger than data points: it reflects the neighbors we serve. Families who accessed health care. Young people who found opportunity. Neighbors who found stability when they needed it most.

This is what happens when a community comes together. Read the full report: https://bit.ly/FY25-Annual-Report

A wellness day at the Harbor. ๐ŸŒŠโ˜€๏ธ

On Saturday, United Way of the National Capital Area was proud to join Kaiser Permanente for Healthy at the Harbor at the National Harbor for a full day of wellness, community and good vibes.

From free preventive health services at the Pop-Up Medical Center to yoga, Zumba, line dancing and kids activities, our community showed up and showed out. Health and wellness isn't just a doctor's visit, it's the music, the movement, the neighbors beside you, and readily available resources.

This is what community care looks like. ๐Ÿ’™
