Scenes from our annual Community Meeting! 📸

Shout-out to Sean-Maurice of Arena Stage for welcoming us into such a beautiful space. Councilmember Christina Henderson shared insight into the District's budget process. Lamont Carey, the Director of the Mayor's Office of Community Affairs, and Shirleta Settles, Cultural Arts Manager at the D.C. Department of Parks and Recreation, shared how their agencies serve as valuable partners in strengthening arts and cultural programming throughout the District.

Executive Director Alorie Clark shared updates on DC Collaborative’s strategic plan, vision for continued growth, and goals for the next school year.

Elizabeth Winkelhoff, Data and Evaluation Manager at DC Collaborative, announced the release of the District Data Initiative report on sustainability. This yearly report offers a District-wide view of the impact of arts and humanities education and charts the landscape that teachers, organizations, and students are navigating.

Ashlee McKinnon, Director of Education Development and Partnerships, led us through the purpose and effectiveness of the Collaborative's education programming.💡This school year, through our coordination of arts programs, we reached 100 schools and 207 teachers. We oversaw the completion of 374 programs, which resulted in over 16,500 student interactions.

Join us this Saturday for an interactive, family-friendly workshop introducing participants to the Five Elements of flavor — sour, bitter, sweet, pungent, and salty — and explore how taste influences digestion, energy, and emotional wellbeing.

Participants will also assemble their own traditional Five-Spice powder blend to take home. The workshop concludes with a live demonstration and sampling of Kale Marinated with Five-Spice Caramelized Onions, empowering participants to integrate the blend into everyday cooking.

Join us on September 17, as the Anacostia Community Museum celebrates 59 years of keeping and sharing our community stories.

A Night at the Museum will be a night of history, heritage and community. On Thursday, September 17, this after- hours celebration will be filled with live music by Marcus Mitchell and band, food, beverages and unique experiences designed to honor our shared stories while creating new memories together.

Guests can visit the Perfume Bar by Scentelier Lab and explore the connection between fragrance, memory and community. Discover how scents woven into our lives can become part of the stories that shape us. Explore "We Make History" after-hours and discover how history is made, told and preserved. Enjoy light appetizers along with beer, wine and spirit free mocktails throughout the event, available while supplies last.

This event is more than an anniversary. It is an opportunity to celebrate with the community and recognize stories that shape us.
