Concern is increasing over backslides in reforms and escalations in human rights abuses in Burma. There has been speculation that the coup in Thailand and the regressing situation there has provided the generals with "proof" that democracy will fail and they must creep back into control. The international community should make it clear that if Burma (and Thailand) wish to remain in conversations with the global community, that respect for the UDHR is a minimum requirement.

Ramadan Mubarak to the world. We're hoping that the coming election in Indonesia sees policy corrections that avoid the nightmare that fires create not just in the country with the world's largest Muslim population, but throughout the region. With parliament disqualifying Aung San Suu Kyi from presidential elections, the constitution could be a winning issue for Burma's opposition, The Wall Street Journal writes in an editorial.

The more time that passes, the more it seems that Barney Frank might have had a good point. Your thoughts on how to respond to the abrogation of democracy and a freely elected government in Thailand?
