Tuesday was a beautiful day to celebrate DC’s kinship caregivers! Caregivers, community partners, and DC leaders came together at the Wilson Building for our DC Kinship Care Month Rally. We were honored to hear remarks from Councilmembers Brianne Nadeau and Zachary Parker and along with members of our Relative Caregiver Community Board. Councilmember Parker also presented the signed 2026 Kinship Care Month Resolution to DCKC Deputy Director Stephanie McLellan.

Thank you to Councilmember Matt Frumin and Elissa Silverman for attending, and to our partners who joined us, including Foster and Adoptive Parent Advocacy Center (FAPAC), DC Action, The George Washington University, and DC127. We are grateful to everyone who came out on a gorgeous sunny day to celebrate and uplift DC kinship caregivers and the children they raise. And we’ll keep working together to make sure DC kinship families have the support they deserve.

On Sunday, DC KinCare joined the community at Trinidad Day! We had the opportunity to connect with families, share information about our services, and provide resources for kinship caregivers and families.

Thank you to everyone who stopped by to learn more and connect with us. We’re grateful for opportunities like this to be part of the community and support families across D.C.

TODAY, the D.C. Council unanimously voted to officially recognize September 2026 as Kinship Care Month in Washington, D.C.

A special thank you to Councilmembers Zachary Parker, Charles Allen Ward 6 Councilmember, Anita Bonds, Matthew Frumin, Janeese Lewis George, Esq., Chairman Phil Mendelson , Robert White, and Trayon White, who introduced the Resolution.
