Inspired by India’s most famous dramatic work, Kalidasa’s 5th-century play Shakuntala, this new opera by IN Series Artistic Director Timothy Nelson fuses Western baroque instruments with Indian classical instruments to create a “dance-opera” on the themes of love, loss, and redemption.

Everything, Devoured Artist Spotlight ❤️‍🔥

Deacon Withers (Assistant Stage Manager & Hands) (he/him) is a regular actor and stage/assistant stage manager in the DMV area. He is a junior at the University of Maryland studying vocal performance with Kevin Short. This is his 2nd production involved with Nu Sass, having previously worked on The Pliant Girls in Fall 2024. Previous recent credits include Music Director for Wildwood Summer Theatre's "Mystery of Edwin Drood" (2025), Stage Manager for Loudoun Lyric Opera's "Baking With Divas" (2026), and Anthony in Artistic Synergy of Baltimore's "Sweeney Todd (2025). He has enjoyed working with this cast and crew an incredible amount, and hopes you will enjoy the show!

Theo Yu (Dramaturg) (they/them) is a DC-based director, producer, and practitioner. They reimagine classics and develop new work through community lenses to stimulate collective imagination and expand understanding across differences. As a producer, they have partnered with community and activist organizations, including Migrant Solidarity Mutual Aid, Save Chinatown Solidarity Network DC, and Broadway Cares Equity Fights AIDS. Henery Wyand (Costume Design & Drag Consultant) (he/him) is a Writer, Costume Designer, Helen Hayes Award Nominated Director, and Award Winning Drag Artist. Select Directing Credits include: CHRCH by Seshat Yonshea Walker (Capital Fringe, Kennedy Center), Blue Door (Perisphere Theater), c**n by Henery Wyand (4615 Theatre), Alice in Wonderland (Adirondack Theater Festival). Assistant Directing: The Pliant Girls (Nu Sass and Theatre Prometheus), Mrs. Warren Profession (Off-Broadway), Calling All Kates, The Enlightenment of Percival Von Schmootz, Sequence, Beau (ATF). As a Drag Artist, Henery has opened for Chappell Roan and performed with Billy Porter. He is the host and creator of the Drag shows: Identity Theft, Black Opal, and The Cookout. Henery holds a BA in Drama from Vassar and is an alumnus of the National Theatre Institute.

Martin Bernier (Props Design & Technical Director) (he/they) George Mason University BA Design & Technical Theater & Performance. Marty is super excited to be working their first show with Nu Sass! Prop Designs: Murder on the Orient Express, Into the Woods, Evil Dead The Musical, Disney’s The Hunchback of Notre Dame, Dracula: A Comedy of Terrors, The Who’s Tommy!, Urinetown (Workhouse Arts Center). The Last Five Years, Footloose, Chicken & Biscuits, Native Gardens, Shawshank Redemption, POTUS; School Girls (NextStop Theatre Company). Technical Direction: Kill The Ripper (We Happy Few), Shrek Jr, Frozen Jr, Descendants Jr., SpongeBob the Musical Jr, Newsies Jr., and Beauty and the Beast Jr (Acting for Young People), Disney’s The Hunchback of Notre Dame (City of Fairfax Theatre Company).
