This Make-A-Will Month, YWCA USA is honored to celebrate the life and legacy of Verna Jean Hussey Powell.

A musician, educator, and lifelong learner, Verna Jean spent 100 years sharing her gifts and making a difference in the lives of others. Throughout her life, she believed in the power of education, creativity, opportunity, and supporting women as they grow, heal, and move forward.

When Verna Jean passed away on her 100th birthday in 2022, she chose to leave a portion of her estate to organizations that reflected the values she held throughout her life—including YWCA USA.

We are honored that she trusted the YWCA movement to continue advancing the values she cared deeply about.

Her generosity is a reminder that a life of purpose can continue creating change for generations to come.
