HISTORY

The Lamond Riggs Citizens Association began its in involvement in development projects in our neighborhood several years before the task force was even formed. This increased involvement was the vision of then-LRCA President Rodney Foxworth, along with then-Advisory Neighborhood Commissioner (ANC) Muriel Bowser, LRCA Vice President Dr. Melvin Rhodes, Citizens Aware Block Organization Pres

ident Gwen Cofield and Lamond-Riggs Community Action Group Vice President Keith White and several other community leaders, who formally established the Lamond Riggs Development Task Force in 2006. However, the task force has partners in the City Council both Councilmembers Harry Thomas and Muriel Bowser, Advisory Neighborhood Commissioners from both Wards 4 and 5, people knowledgeable in construction, engineering, law, finance, contracting, etc. We are always looking for more members and partners.

The Lamond Riggs Citizens Association is having its monthly meeting @ UDC-CCDC (formally Bertie Backus JHS) Rm. 129 this Monday, April 2nd from 7:00 - 8:45 pm. The Ward 5 candidates will be there discussing their vision for the Ward! DDOT will be there too giving an update on the construction at Riggs Rd & South Dakota Ave. See you there!

Next task force meeting will be on January 26th at 6:30 pm in the Lamond-Riggs Recreation Center.

The community meeting to discuss the Fort Totten Square development with Walmart as major retailer is this coming Monday, November 28, 2011 at 7pm at the Riggs-LaSalle Recreation Center in the Gym.

The Lamond-Riggs Citizens Association, along with it's development task force, is currently reviewing the Walmart proposal and its potential impact on our community. The review will consist of several elements that can be seen on either our Google or Yahoo Groups. The review, outreach, and feedback can help ensure that the project going on this site is a"win-win" for all involved parties.

The next immediate step will be a community-wide meeting on Nov. 28 at 7pm. Location is to be determined.
