Abramson Scholarship Foundation

Its primary mission is to provide financial and mentoring support to District of Columbia public high school graduates attending four year colleges.

The Abramson Scholarship Foundation provides critical financial assistance and comprehensive mentoring to promising DC public high school graduates attending four-year colleges. Colleagues and friends of Fred Abramson, a prominent and civic-minded Washington lawyer who died at a young age, established the Abramson Scholarship Foundation in 1991 in his memory. The Foundation carries out its mission through parallel and integrated Scholarship and Mentoring Programs.

We're continuing our Scholar Spotlights, highlighting what our Scholars have been up to this summer!

Next up is Wengel, a rising sophomore at Duke University majoring in Computer Science! This summer, Wengel is interning at Accenture, a consulting company that helps businesses solve problems using technology and strategy. As a Technology Consulting Analyst Intern, she's working on a project with a tech company, helping with user documentation, data analysis, and testing.

When asked about her favorite project this summer, Wengel shared: "My favorite project was working on testing for an application we were implementing for our client, and I specifically liked collaborating with the developers to fix the back-end issues I had found."

Wengel also shared: "This internship gave me hands-on experience in technology consulting and helped me see what this career could look like for me. It clarified that a path combining technology and interpersonal work is something I want to potentially pursue."

Next up is Ellis, a rising junior at Virginia Tech studying Hospitality and Tourism Management and Commercial Real Estate! This summer, Ellis is working as a Rooms Division Intern at The Greenbrier Resort, where he's gaining hands-on experience and connecting with incredible people in the industry.

We're excited to spotlight our Scholars this summer and share what they've been up to during their internships!🌟

First up is Moyinoluwa, a rising sophomore at The Catholic University of America majoring in Biomedical Engineering!

This summer, Moyin is working as a Preconstruction Engineering Intern at Coakley & Williams Construction, where she's gaining hands-on experience with a company that has delivered innovative construction projects across the DMV since 1961.

Several years ago, the ASF Board of Directors imagined future headlines that would reflect the long-term impact of our work. One of those hoped-for headlines was: “Abramson Scholar becomes DC Mayor.”

Today, we are proud to celebrate Abramson Scholar and mentor alum Janeese Lewis George on her primary victory in the DC mayoral election.

For more than three decades, the Abramson Scholarship Foundation has supported college-bound DC high school graduates who are committed to building meaningful lives, pursuing their goals, and making a positive impact in their communities. Janeese’s leadership is a powerful example of this vision in action.

We are also proud to recognize former ASF Vice President and mentor Brian Schwalb on his re-election as Attorney General for the District of Columbia.

We celebrate Janeese and Brian for their service and leadership, and the many ways members of the ASF community contribute to a stronger DC.

We are grateful for our community of Scholars, alumni, mentors, volunteers, and supporters who care deeply about the future of our city and the generations who will help lead it.
