AIN reports that Garmin has expanded its FliteCharts and SafeTaxi airport surface map coverage to include Mexico and the Bahamas, giving pilots operating in those regions access to detailed georeferenced airport diagrams and terminal procedures through compatible Garmin avionics systems.

The update is designed to improve situational awareness and reduce the risk of runway incursions by providing pilots with clearer airport navigation information during taxi, takeoff, and landing operations. Garmin said the added coverage is available through its regular aviation database subscriptions and supports a wide range of Garmin-equipped aircraft used in business and general aviation operations.

Mexico’s Federal Civil Aviation Agency (AFAC) has certified the HondaJet APMG S upgrade package. This allows owners of HondaJet Classic and APMG aircraft in Mexico to retrofit their jets with advanced technologies and performance enhancements previously introduced on newer models like the HondaJet Elite S.

The upgrade package includes updated avionics software and hardware for faster processing speeds, the Advanced Steering Augmentation System (ASAS) for improved handling and crosswind capability, and a 300-pound increase in maximum takeoff weight to improve payload flexibility.

The modifications are available through Honda Aircraft’s Greensboro, North Carolina, service center and its global network of authorized service centers, including AVEMEX in Mexico. Honda said the certification expands access to modernized performance features for legacy HondaJet operators and is part of a broader effort to secure approvals in additional international markets.

Textron Aviation delivered a 19-passenger Cessna SkyCourier equipped with a passenger-to-freighter conversion kit to AIR Marshall Islands. The conversion kit allows the aircraft to switch between passenger and cargo roles, which will improve essential inter-island transportation across the Marshall Islands.

The aircraft will support the movement of passengers, mail, food, medical supplies, and other freight between remote atolls, with a second SkyCourier expected later this year. Textron Aviation says the AIR Marshall Islands aircraft is the first SkyCourier delivered into the Republic of the Marshall Islands.

This week's is Garmin, which just last month received European Union Aviation Safety Agency certification for several new retrofit avionics solutions across helicopters, business jets, and general aviation aircraft.

The approvals include the GI 275 electronic flight display for European-registered Part 27 helicopters, the G5000 integrated flight deck upgrade for Cessna Citation XLS+ and XLS Gen2 aircraft, the Perspective+ upgrade for Cirrus SR series airplanes, and the GDM 450R distance measuring equipment system.

These upgrades are designed to modernize aging cockpits, improve situational awareness, reduce maintenance concerns related to obsolete avionics, and add advanced features such as touchscreen controls, enhanced weather capabilities, and expanded connectivity options. Garmin also announced that EASA approval for its GDL 60 datalink with PlaneSync technology is expected soon.

RTX announced that Collins Aerospace is investing $26.5 million to expand its radar manufacturing operations in Largo, Florida, in response to growing demand tied to the FAA’s air traffic control modernization program.

The expansion will add a new production area, advanced testing equipment, and additional manufacturing capacity to support higher output of surveillance radar systems such as the ASR-XM and Condor Mk3, which Collins is supplying under a major FAA contract awarded earlier this year. Company officials said the investment is intended to accelerate delivery schedules, strengthen domestic aerospace manufacturing, and create new high-tech jobs in the Tampa Bay region while supporting the modernization of the U.S. National Airspace System.
