UMAA expresses its profound concern following the assassination of Grand Ayatollah Sayyid Ali Khamenei. He served not only as a political but a faith leader, as well, which will have ramifications across the globe. This news comes on the heels of the bombing of a girls elementary school where countless young lives were lost.
As an organization dedicated to the principles of non-violence and social justice, we unequivocally condemn all acts of extrajudicial killing and political violence, regardless of the target or the geography. Such acts serve only to destabilize regions and incite further bloodshed.
In the scared month of Ramadan, when Muslims gather for reflection, introspection, and self-improvement; we call upon the international community and leaders across the globe to prioritize de-escalation and peace.
Shia Muslims, in particular, are preparing to commemorate the legacy of Imam Ali ibn Abu Talib (as) who displayed grace, mercy, and peace after he was struck in prayer in this holy month. Our prayers are with the millions of individuals for whom this is a moment of deep mourning and uncertainty. We remain committed to the path of dialogue and the preservation of human life as dictated by our faith.
We offer our condolences to all of humanity on the profound losses during these past few days.
