✅ DMV-based nonprofits operating with budgets at or below $750k,
✅ Working with historically under-resourced communities in the Greater Washington region to build wealth or financial security through access to housing that promotes their health, well-being, and upward mobility.

Beginning in 2026, Giving Circle members will choose one component of economic justice to fund each year. This year, members have chosen to fund housing justice, which can include (but is not limited to) ensuring affordable housing, increasing housing stability, and reducing gentrification and displacement.

Specific examples of work can include (but are not limited to) tenant organizing and strengthening renter protections, eviction prevention, affordable housing advocacy, supporting neighbors experiencing homelessness, exploring or strengthening cooperative housing models, improving rates of homeownership, or addressing redlining and Indigenous land theft through reparations, landback, or other measures.

Applicants can apply for coalition or partnership-based work, and use the general operating funds we provide to sustain existing work or pilot new work.

It was so great to gather with fellow giving circle members last night at our annual CircleUp DMV! We had great conversations, ate delicious food courtesy of Dreaming Out Loud, Inc., and opened and closed with healing rituals courtesy of Shaiday Dancy (Sunflower Artistry).

Members came together from Cherry Blossom Giving Circle, Collective 365, Giving Together, Impact100 DC, Many Hands, Next Gen Giving Circle, Women's Giving Circle of Howard County, Business Women's Giving Circle at the Community Foundation for Northern Virginia, Anne Arundel Women Giving Together, a women's giving circle, and more.

Thank you, Philanthropy Together, for sponsoring this event and supporting giving circles like ours! Folks left energized and with totes and copies of Glen Galaich's book, Control: Why Big Giving Falls Short.

On April 21, Next Gen Giving Circle is hosting a book discussion of The Big We by Hali Lee at Bol Coop! Drawing from the experiences of real-life giving circles, philanthropy leader Hali Lee challenges our traditional understanding of giving, showing how everyday people can take back philanthropy from the billionaires and make the world a better place.

Spur Local is a member of the Fair Budget Coalition, a local coalition comprised of individuals and DC-based organizations that advocate for a racially just DC budget. As we enter budget season, Next Gen Giving Circle and Spur Local are partnering with them to present DC Budget 101—an introduction to how our city's budget is shaped, and how DC residents and taxpayers can get involved. Join us on Tuesday, April 7, from 5:30-7pm on Zoom.

We will also share about the current state of nonprofits in our Greater Washington region and conduct a quick ranked-choice voting training, which DC voters will use for the first time in this year's local election! RSVP now at bit.ly/dcbudget101.
