Who is a philanthropist? What can community giving look like? If you're curious about these questions, join Next Gen Giving Circle for a book discussion on Hali Lee's "The Big We"! In her book, she challenges the traditional understanding of giving, showing how everyday people can take back philanthropy from the billionaires and make the world a better place.

We'll be at Bol Coop on Tuesday, April 21, at 6pm. RSVP to join us at bitly/thebigwe!

On April 21, Next Gen Giving Circle is hosting a book discussion of The Big We by Hali Lee at Bol Coop! Drawing from the experiences of real-life giving circles, philanthropy leader Hali Lee challenges our traditional understanding of giving, showing how everyday people can take back philanthropy from the billionaires and make the world a better place.

Meet members of the Next Gen Giving Circle, discuss the book with your peers and neighbors, and build community with us. Books will be available for purchase at Bol. Join us: bit.ly/thebigwe

Spur Local is a member of the Fair Budget Coalition, a local coalition comprised of individuals and DC-based organizations that advocate for a racially just DC budget. As we enter budget season, Next Gen Giving Circle and Spur Local are partnering with them to present DC Budget 101—an introduction to how our city's budget is shaped, and how DC residents and taxpayers can get involved. Join us on Tuesday, April 7, from 5:30-7pm on Zoom.

We will also share about the current state of nonprofits in our Greater Washington region and conduct a quick ranked-choice voting training, which DC voters will use for the first time in this year's local election! RSVP now at bit.ly/dcbudget101.

Fair Budget Coalition has officially launched their FY27 Budget Platform. As a coalition member, Spur Local is proud to support the call for local leaders to develop a budget that invests in care and sustainability 🌱

Over the past few years, DC’s government has made significant cuts to social safety net programs and, more importantly, has backed away from commitments to care for our own. A budget that invests in the social safety net can both take care of our people in the near-term and provide the resources necessary for our communities to thrive in the long-term.

Even if no one else has us, ! We join our nonprofit and community partners in a shared commitment to push for the budget our neighbors deserve. Check out this year’s budget recommendations: bit.ly/WeGotUsDC

Mayor Bowser Chairman Phil Mendelson: Build a budget that allows DC to take care of our own.

Who is the Next Gen Giving Circle? We are a group of DMV residents, many of us young professionals, who started gathering in 2019 to learn about collaboratively supporting local nonprofits. In our last six years of operating, we have granted $233,000 to incredible organizations.

With 100+ members since our founding, we have steadily grown our commitment to trust-based philanthropy and capacity to practice it. We trust local changemakers to create change and believe in working alongside them. Among other practices, we offer open applications in multiple formats and languages, as well as multi-year general operating support with no reporting requirements.

If you're interested in connecting with like-minded residents, learning more about the DMV, and making a difference together, join us today! We offer accessible membership tiers at $10, $15, and $25 a month, or $300 a year. Visit NextGenGivingCircle.org.
