The World Bank Office in Ethiopia has invited the Youths Mentoring Youths (YMY) family to participate in the “End Poverty Day 2020 Forum” and take part in a global dialogue where the youth will have the opportunity to share their views on what it will take to tackle poverty, particularly in light of the setbacks caused by the COVID 19 pandemic.

Today's youth can bring critical thinking and use digital technology to help reverse the direction the world economy has taken due to covid-19 pandemic. They can propose innovative solutions that could support a resilient recovery.

We at YMY consider this to be a great opportunity for the youth to participate and contribute to a global dialogue on addressing the challenge of ending extreme poverty. Therefore, we call upon you, YMY participants, to take advantage of this great opportunity to express your views and participate in the forum. If you are interested, send your ideas and initiatives in a couple of sentences to: [email protected] . The organizers will select the proposal(s) they want to discuss further. The target date for the forum is the second week of October 2020. Please respond at your earliest.

Today Youths Mentoring Youths (YMY) held the much anticipated International Dialogue on Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Augmented Reality (AR). The event was organized in collaboration with the World Bank Ethiopia Country Office and Youths Mentoring Youths. It was conducted via videoconference and animated by Bethelehem (Betty) Dessie from Addis Abeba. Betty, named "the youngest pioneer in Ethiopia's fast emerging tech scene" by CNN, started coding at the age of 9 and has greatly contributed to the programing of the world-renowned Sophia the Robot. Today, Betty mesmerized the audience by explaining and answering questions raised on AI and AR by young participants who joined via VC from five countries in Africa: Ethiopia, Kenya, Benin, Burkina Faso, Chad. More connected from various parts of the world to follow the discussions. In the US, TC Williams High School in Alexandria, VA arranged for the youth to follow the event thanks to Ms. Eden Buba. More on the event soon. For now enjoy photos of the young participants in Virginia, Burkina Faso and Ethiopia.
