It’s almost time for the next monthly trash pickup!! This month, we will meet Saturday Aug. 15 at Long Branch-Garland Park in Takoma Park (although Google maps says it’s Silver Spring 🤷‍♀️🤷🏽‍♀️🤷🏿‍♀️ Runs from 10am-noon as usual.

Here are the full details for monthly trash pickups:

* Saturdays from 10am-12pm (see dates below)
* Location changes based on group suggestions each month but will always be in a SS/TP neighborhood.
* Participants pick up as much trash as they can and (ideally) take at least one bag’s worth to throw out either with their own curbside garbage, apartment dumpster, or to a public waste site if that’s convenient for them.
* Trash bags, rubber gloves, hand sanitizer and a few grabbers will be provided but participants should bring other tools and gardening gloves if they have them. Closed-toed footwear is recommended!
* All are welcome!
* In case of inclement weather, we will cancel
This is a low-pressure, low key way to get outside and socialize with each other while showing the community some love💕🫂If you can’t make it one month try again another month:
* September 12: location TBD
* October 10: location TBD
* November 14: location TBD
* December 12: location TBD

In memory of Catherine CJ Hunter, who passed earlier in May.

Catherine was a constant light in our mutual aid community. She was practical, kind, welcoming, and smart. She tried to make things better where it was needed.Her care for people was hands-on.

Catherine made this world better by being in itCatherine was a true example of someone putting care into action. She carried the bulk of the organization for the clothing closet for years. She alternated weeks of working the closet with her chemotherapy schedule. She trained so many volunteers and made the community closet a welcoming space that helped so many people and families. She was also a wonderful person, a friend and neighbor we were lucky to have. Our community is better because of her.

We miss her.
