The San Antonio NSDAR chapter would like to send a special thank you this Veteran’s Day to all of our Service Men and Women, from those serving now, all the way back to those first brave Patriots.

This Veteran’s Day, please consider purchasing a wreath through the link below. This December our chapter will take all wreaths purchased and lay them on the graves of local veterans at Riverside Cemetery and La Verne Cemetery.

This has become a beloved tradition of our chapter and a special way to bring the light of the holidays to our fallen Patriots and ensure they are never forgotten.

If prompted for information, The Group ID is CA0487P.
Riverside National Cemetery Location ID is CARNCR
La Verne Cemetery Location ID is CALVCL.

Thank you!

Wreaths Across America ("WAA") coordinates wreath-laying ceremonies every December to "Remember, Honor, and Teach" about the sacrifices made by our veterans and their families. People were asking, “What was happening at the Madonna Statue last Sunday?” It was the Upland members of the National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution performing minor maintenance & cleanup of the Madonna monument and the surrounding area. Thank you for your service to the City of Upland! We are so proud to have you here. 🇺🇸 ❤️

The National Society Daughters of the American Revolution (N.S.D.A.R.) is a nonprofit organization. Part of their responsibilities is overseeing the condition of all 12 Madonna of the Trail statues.

For our DAR Day of Service, these members of our chapter spent some time cleaning up trash and pulling weeds around the Upland Madonna of the Trail. They even had some passers by shout their thanks as they drove by. This city is very proud of their Madonna. Thank you, ladies, for your help and work today!

Yesterday the San Antonio Chapter participated in the annual Wreaths Across America program. Some of our ladies went out to Riverside National Cemetery to see Christmas wreaths laid on the gravesites of our local fallen heroes.

Through generous donations our chapter we obtained 89 wreaths to be laid on the gravesites of Patriot Heroes laid to rest at Riverside National Cemetery.

Unfortunately, due to Covid, only about 2600 wreaths were laid this year in Riverside, which is a fraction compared to the usual 12,000. Let’s make it up in 2021!

If you missed out on participating this year, we will be doing this again next winter. Please reach out to us for information.

Today in History: on December 14, 1799, President George Washington passed away suddenly at his home. Shocking the world and sending our young nation into mourning for loss of her first great leader.

In the days before his death, Washington had been out riding and came inside soaking wet from the rain. Ever the punctual one, he refused to change and be late to dinner. By morning, he was starting to feel ill with a cold.

His exact cause of death has been hotly debated over the years. Most now believe he had a severe throat infection. Treatment at the time included blood letting, herbal gargles, inducing vomiting and other painful procedures. Today, an antibiotic would have likely healed his sickness.

Martha lamented from his bedside “Tis well, All is now over, I shall soon follow him! I have no more trials to pass through!” She would never sleep in that room again.

Today in History: December 4, 1783 George Washington gathered his officers at Fraunces Tavern in New York City and have his famous Farewell Address. Eyewitnesses say the normally cool and distant Washington was overcome with emotion.

Fraunces Tavern (second photo) is still a functioning bar and restaurant in lower Manhattan. Upstairs houses a wealth of George Washington related treasures, including a lock of his hair, a pair of Martha’s shoes, and the door to the carriage he rode to his inauguration.
