Interested in making a difference on the DC community area through a service volunteering year? The LAYC AmeriCorps Education Program 22-23 Members Cohort is still looking for more applicants.

The Latin American Youth Center-AmeriCorps Education Program is seeking young adults who are considering a career in youth development, social service, youth related area of growth to try a hand in real world setting and gain tons hard and soft skills.

After-School Programs for DCPS students, families, school and communities.

The Latin American Youth Center Latin American Youth Center and its Education & Workforce Department is happy to share our After-School Programs for Elementary School, Middle School and High School. If you are currently a student or plan to be a student at the following DC Public Schools our services are available to you at no cost.

Elementary Schools:
- Bancroft Elementary School

- Takoma Education Campus

- Powell Bilingual Elementary School

Middle School:
- MacFarland Middle School


High Schools:
- Woodrow Wilson High School
- Theordor Roosevelt High School


Youth participants who are enrolled in LAYC After-School programs are eligible to receive the following case managment support and referrals through LAYC and our partners:

- Food Distribution + Deliveries
- Toiletries
- Diapers
- Support w/Rental Assitance
- Referral to Mental Health Services
- Technology Assistance Needs

Youth were introduced to the PTS Explorer curriculum and engage with corresponding facilitators on conversation surrounding career readiness; work ethics, soft and hard skills, interview elevators, resumes, etc… Which was also strengthening by Street Law!

The team supported our program by educating youth on current COVID-19 and variants, resources that are important to know about, safety, importance on their health(mental, emotional and physical) and bring more awareness on their own and others intersectionality.

Great conversation and usage of Restorative Practices has been happening and our staff couldn’t have done this without the support and mentorship of the trainings provided by

During this six-week program LAYC Edu Dept members, LAYC AmeriCorps, Health Promotions Team, UDC4H work with youth and completed different curriculums such as Pathway To Success through IYF, explored Art Literacy and attended to professional development workshops and trainings; Street Law, etc…

Due to COVID-19, few youth could experience a combination of virtual and in-person participation on rotation.

Cameras on or off, each and one of these students stood out to our middle school summer team and not only did our team received gratitude but also new information that can be carry on and share with others. Our team appreciates all the small things, the repeated potcasts and videos on the famous Rivera’s case and how everyone had their theories, learning and understanding the basics of Marvel universes, and much more. Thank You!

We wish you a wonderful start of this new school year. You know where are, how to contact us and just keep in mind that LAYC cares for each every single one of you. 😭πŸ₯° As for next summer, we hope to meet new students, and families who will allows us to be part of their summer.
