Today we’re wearing orange for Unity Day, standing together for kindness, inclusion, and a school community where everyone belongs.

We asked Hillside students to finish one sentence: “Hillside will be better if we…” and they showed up with real answers. 📝✨

Missed it? We’re back during 2nd lunch today at the Hillside wall in the lobby! Come add your voice and help shape the Hillside we’re building together. 💛

Civic engagement doesn’t start when you turn 18. 🖤💛

At Black SEL, we believe young people should have opportunities to understand what’s happening in their communities, build their civic knowledge, and recognize the many ways they can make an impact before they ever step into a voting booth.

This Saturday, our Student Advocates will continue that conversation through a session focused on civic engagement, the 2026 midterm elections, and the legacy of Otis M. Jr. as we explore how history, leadership, and community action connect to the present.

Registration for this session is now closed, but the conversation is bigger than one event. We’re grateful for leaders who continue encouraging our young people to stay informed, ask questions, and understand the power of their voices.

Today is National Youth Confidence Day. At Black Social Emotional Liberation, our Student Advocates grow their confidence by leading, using their voice and showing up for each other in spaces that affirm who they are.

Critical consciousness is a core part of the Black SEL Framework. It means seeing how power and systems shape our lives, knowing where we stand in them, and choosing to challenge what's unjust.

Awareness is the start. Action is the point.

Collective well-being asks us to think beyond the individual.

How we feel is connected to the people we lean on, the spaces where we feel seen, and the systems that shape our everyday lives. When those relationships and environments are supportive, our communities have more room to grow, heal, and thrive together. 🖤💛

Take a moment to reflect:
- Who do you lean on when things get heavy?
- Where do you feel like you fully belong?
- What would help your whole community be well?

Because when we’re well together, we grow together.

Hillside High students: this week we’re screening the new A Different World during your assigned lunches on Tuesday (10/13) and Thursday (10/15) in Media Lab 2. After each episode, we’ll talk about what it brings up for us: identity, community, and finding your place.

This screening is open to Hillside High School students only. Spots are limited and RSVP is required. Scan the code on the graphic or tap the link in bio to save your seat!

What is the Hub?

Healing is a group project. 💛

Today is World Mental Health Day. At Black SEL, we know our wellness has never been a solo journey. It lives in the people who pour into us, the spaces that let us be fully ourselves, and the community that shows up when things get heavy.

Today, check in with yourself honestly. Then check on your people, and go past “how are you?” Try “what’s been heavy lately?” or “what would help this week?”

You don’t have to carry it alone. Call or text 988 any time, 24/7.

We’re proud to support Christian Kenan, Black SEL Club President at Hillside High School, as she runs for Miss Hillside 2026-2027! 👑🐝🖤💛

Christian continues to show what youth leadership can look like through service, involvement, and using her voice to make an impact in her school community. We’re excited to see her carry that leadership into this next opportunity.

The Black SEL Hub is more than a place to stop by. It’s a space built for connection, reflection, leadership, and growth. 💡

At Hillside, the Hub gives students opportunities to strengthen self-awareness, build meaningful REALationships, explore their identities, and develop the confidence and skills to move through the world with purpose. The Hub brings the Black SEL Framework to life through culturally affirming activities, conversations, and community-centered support.

With Ms. K as your Hub Facilitator, students have someone in the building helping create that space and keep the community connected.

Hillside High Students are more than welcome to stop by Media Lab 2 and see what’s happening at the Hub. ✨
