Sunday, September 28, 2025 - Malagasy in and around the Washington D.C. area held peaceful protests to voice their support for Malagasy Citizens in demanding basic human rights; water, electricity, freedom of speech, and justice.

We must continue showing our solidarity and rise up whether we are abroad or domestic. It is our responsibility and duty to give voices to those underrepresented and being forcefully silenced.

We unequivocally condemn the violence and fear tactics perpetrated against unarmed and peaceful protesters in Madagascar. Wherever we are, we must shed light on the truth.

On September 27, 2025, MUSA — a non-profit organization representing the Malagasy Youth Diaspora in the United States — issued an open letter expressing our deep concern over the recent events in Madagascar and calling for the protection of citizens, peace, and accountability.

The Ambassador, Lantosoa Rakotomalala, has since responded (Slide 4). We are grateful to Ambassador Lantosoa Rakotomalala, for her prompt acknowledgment and for assuring us that our message will be formally transmitted to the Government of Madagascar. However, this is just the beginning.

The next step is to hold this meeting, where MUSA will stand united in achieving peace, dignity, and a just future where lives and livelihoods are protected.

In the coming days, we will directly collect your concerns in order to facilitate effective and actionable outcomes in this meeting with the Malagasy Ambassador.

We, Malagasy in USA (MUSA), stand in solidarity with Gen Z Madagascar. 🇲🇬✊🏾

On September 25, 2025, thousands of people intended to march peacefully against preventable daily hardships that have had paralyzing effects on the Malagasy population’s livelihoods. These daily hardships consist of, but are NOT limited to:

* Water shortages lasting nearly the full day
* Hours long power outages

The protests were intended to demand awareness, accountability, and action to resolve these issues from those with the responsibility to serve. In a plea to advocate for basic human rights, they were instead met with violence; resulting in deaths and significant harm to those unarmed. In at least one instance, a family had lost an infant while in their home and not participating in the protest. These violences against the safety of the population are currently ongoing and developing, reinforcing the urgent and immediate need for equitable action.

Last week, the MUSA Madagascar team hosted an addiction prevention workshop for students at Lycée Imerintsiadino Masindray.

In partnership with Centre Aro Aina , we welcomed Dr. Miarintsoa to lead an open, honest conversation about addiction among youth.
We had over 80 young people in the room - and what made it even better was seeing teachers, the school director, and even the priest join the conversation. It showed how important this topic is for our whole community. 🤝

We wrapped up with some juice, biscuits, and big smiles because it's all about sharing, caring, and supporting each other.
