The USJC Northern California Region recently visited Yagi Sisters Farm in Sonoma County, where members toured the fields, tasted fresh produce, and learned about the enduring legacy of Japanese American farming in California.

Founded by Reyna Yagi as a tribute to her grandfather and his brothers of Yagi Brothers Farm in Stockton, the farm grows Japanese and Asian vegetable varieties, including myoga ginger, daikon, shiso, and cucumbers, as a living act of remembrance and community.

During the visit, participants reflected on the remarkable impact of Japanese American farmers prior to WWII, when they produced 40% of California’s produce despite farming only 2% of the state’s land. The conversation also connected this history to businesses that continue to thrive today, including Erewhon and Berkeley Bowl, both founded by Japanese and Japanese American families.

To learn more about Yagi Sisters Farm, contact Reyna via Instagram DM or at [email protected].

USJC’s Mental Wellness Affinity Group recently hosted a conversation with Bill Imada (JALD ’11), Chairman and Chief Connectivity Officer at IW Group, exploring findings from IW Group’s 2025 Civility Paradox study, a national survey of 3,000 U.S. adults.

The discussion examined the growing disconnect between civility and trust in the U.S., with nearly 9 in 10 Americans seeing themselves as civil while fewer than 1 in 3 trust others. Participants also explored what these findings mean for the U.S.-Japan and AAPI communities, including cultural perspectives on mental health and psychological safety in the workplace.

The event closed on a hopeful note, with Bill reminding participants that “the table can always grow to welcome another voice.”

Thank you to all who joined and contributed to the discussion.
