Appleseed’s time in Tulsa brought together two essential parts of our work: planning for the future and grounding ourselves in history.

Our board meeting created space for important conversations about the Network’s strategy, collaboration, and continued growth. Our walking tour of Black Wall Street and the historic Greenwood District offered a powerful reminder of the communities, histories, and struggles that make justice work so urgent.

Together, these moments reflected the heart of Appleseed’s mission: advancing practical, community-centered solutions while remaining rooted in the broader fight for equity, dignity, and justice.

Thank you to our board members, staff, partners, and Oklahoma Appleseed Center for Law and Justice for helping make this gathering so meaningful.

Jessica Kejr (Nutrition Access Specialist) and Brenna Visocsky (Campaign Director) attended the Appleseed Convening last week hosted by Oklahoma Appleseed Center for Law and Justice. It was wonderful to connect with the Appleseed Network and learn more about education and criminal justice efforts taking place across the nation, as well as share what we've been doing in Kansas!

As part of the trip, The Appleseed Network and Oklahoma Appleseed coordinated a tour of Black Wall Street with . It was an incredible opportunity to learn more about the history that in so many ways shapes the work we do now, and the work that still needs to be done.

A huge thank you to The Appleseed Network and Oklahoma Appleseed Center for Law and Justice again for putting together such a great family reunion. We look forward to collaborating to bring positive change nationwide through these seeds!

The Integration Coalition met with Chancellor Samuels for a dialogue on school integration and how we can work together to bring forth a shared vision of integration for all students. We discussed capacity for building integration and inclusion, as well as how real integration can be a systemwide goal. We are excited for future collaboration and turning shared values into shared action.

Thank you to Vanessa Leung from Coalition for Asian American Children + Families (https://www.cacf.org/), Erika Kendall from District 17's Community Education Council, Matt Gonzales, José Luis Vilson from Educolor (https://educolor.org/), Cheryelle Cruickshank from INCLUDEnyc (https://includenyc.org/), and Halley Potter from The Century Foundation (https://tcf.org/) for lending their voices in this dialogue.

¡Seguimos construyendo juntos!
