Horizon AFA Flight Attendants vote 99.8% to authorize a strike.

“We have dedicated our lives to Horizon and the communities that we serve. We are simply asking for the pay, benefits, and improvements we have earned,” said Lisa Davis Warren, HZN AFA MEC President. “But Horizon management seems uninterested in resolving this dispute or showing the slightest concern for frontline workers who can’t afford rent or other basic life necessities.”

This vote sends an unmistakable message to management that Horizon Flight Attendants won’t accept endless delays and outrageously low economic proposals.

Today, we remember the 2 crew and 3 passengers who perished onboard American Eagle Flight 5456, a scheduled commuter flight between San Juan and Mayagüez, Puerto Rico. The plane crashed during heavy rain into a swamp, short of the runway in Mayagüez.

Yesterday, our union made another filing in the bankruptcy court to argue for release of Spirit Flight Attendant’s money. This communication is a recap of all of the motions we have filed in advance of the next bankruptcy hearing scheduled for this upcoming week.

Nothing is more important than ensuring that you receive the accrued wages and benefits that you are owed and we are doing everything in our power to stop Spirit’s bondholders from holding up this process and permit distribution now. We are using every lever we have to push this forward. As the only union with a seat on the bankruptcy court’s creditors’ committee we are using our position to press our case. AFA has had expert bankruptcy counsel since the first bankruptcy, and has also retained outside counsel who are experienced in pursuing WARN Act claims on behalf of workers.
