Ashley Allison is leading a new chapter for The Root, returning the iconic Black media outlet to Black ownership and reimagining its mission in today’s media landscape. Under her leadership, the platform is focusing on amplifying Black voices, celebrating culture, and tackling issues that matter most to the community, from politics and social justice to arts and lifestyle.

For Allison, it’s about creating a space where Black stories are told by Black storytellers, shaping the conversation on their own terms and empowering the next generation of journalists and creators. The revival of The Root marks a milestone for Black media, reminding us of the power of ownership, representation, and narrative control. 🖤

AI is officially taking center stage. Xania Monet, an AI R&B artist created by DJ and producer James Jones, recently signed a multimillion-dollar record deal, sparking both curiosity and controversy across the music world.

Powered by Suno, Monet’s music merges machine learning with original lyrics written by Jones himself. But not everyone is celebrating.

In a recent post, artist Kehlani voiced deep concern, calling AI’s growing role in music “beyond out of our control” and saying, “Nothing and no one on Earth will ever be able to justify AI to me.”

As the industry blurs the lines between creator and creation, one thing is clear — the future of music is no longer hypothetical. It’s here, and it’s causing concern.

The digital age is redefining entrepreneurship. Rep. Roger Williams and the Small Business Committee recently brought creators to Capitol Hill to discuss the unique challenges they face in the evolving economy. From unpredictable revenue streams to the need for tailored legal and financial services, creators are advocating for the same protections and support that traditional small businesses receive.

As Kayla Moran, an attorney and creator, emphasized, creators need “Congress-backed support and protection” to thrive. Christina Brennan, president of Renegade Talent Mgmt, highlighted the complexities of name, image, and likeness (NIL) rights, while Nick Luciano, CEO of Tratter House, pointed out that “creatorpreneurs” are just as much small businesses as any other.

Simply put: It’s time for policy to catch up with the creator economy.

Spotify’s under fire. 🎧
Artists and listeners are joining a growing boycott — questioning where their streams, time, and data are really going.

The movement follows news that Spotify’s CEO invested billions into military AI, as musicians call out low royalties and the quiet rise of AI-generated music on playlists.

For many, it’s not just about a paycheck: it’s about principle.
If the platforms profiting off creativity don’t protect the people creating it… how would you protect yours?

AI is changing the creative landscape, but what does it mean for your rights as an artist?
🖌️ As AI tools grow in popularity, it’s crucial to understand how to protect your work from unauthorized use.

Here are 3 ways to safeguard your art in the age of AI:
1️⃣ Add watermarks to your digital creations.
2️⃣ Familiarize yourself with copyright laws and register your work.
3️⃣ Stay updated on new policies addressing AI and intellectual property.

We came together to break barriers and build bridges. ✊🏾

We joined forces with ’s nonprofit, , to empower creators of color to thrive in their craft and their businesses. Through workshops, resources, and essential tools, we made space for creators to grow, protect their work, and push culture forward.

This partnership wouldn’t have been possible without support from MIT’s School for Entrepreneurship, Harvard Business School, Roxbury Community College, and Suffolk Community College. Together, we highlighted the cultural and economic contributions of creators of color, championing inclusion and innovation every step of the way.

The movement continues. 💡 Photo Credit:
