This past year, we, the rotary club of Washington DC and The DC Peace Initiative committee, of which I serve as Chair, had the honor and pleasure of working with Stanton Elementary School 4th and 5th Graders, along with the Washington urban debate league, the Rotaractors club of Howard University, The DC Rotaractors Club, Kamal Ali and Ben’s Chilli Bowl, and with Time For Us To Get Involved. https://Time4Us2GetInvolved.org We worked with these kids on such things as a debate club helping them to form a drama club, and hosting a career day for Stanton Elementary. We worked hand in hand with these kids, the principal, the faculty and staff, and the librarian. It was extremely Successful!

I had the honor and pleasure of attending a dear friend and colleagues’ Dr. Lawson birthday party de Chao this evening! I also had the honor to be assisted by !

I had a great time! It was a lot of people there! And it seemed as if all had a wonderful time! We could eat all we wanted! We could also drink all we chose lol! Dr. Lawson & myself along with Kamal Ali, Roach Brown, & Tyrone Parker—-formed a 501c3 by the name of “Time 4 Us 2 Get Involved”!!

Ward 8 has a very important election coming up on Tuesday. One of the candidates is Trayon White. I knew Trayon pretty well in the past.

My organization, R.O.O.T., was operating in Ward 8. We opened up a community center in Cedar Heights & helped prevent most violence in Cedar Heights—-for several years.

That’s when I first met Trayon.

He ran an organization names “HICKS”—(Helping Inner City Kids Survive).

We use to run into each other all the time. Trayon was completely dedicated in making his community (and Ward 8 ) a better place to live. Trayon was probably 20 years old at the time.

I personally believe that he admired and looked up to me back then; as well as how much I admired him as a young man. In fact, when I organized a campaign (to block a Congressional bill on the front steps of the District Building); Trayon asked me could he speak…..and I allowed him to do so (see attached— front page of The Washington Informer article).

When Trayon got to be City Council Member, he somewhat forgot who I was. I could barely recieve a return phone call from him.

In my opinion, Trayon will probably win on Tuesday. If he does, I hope he returns as the young man I knew——who ran “HICKS”! Not the City Councilmember he ultimately became.

I hope he remembers the people who truly work and try to solve the issues in the community; rather than some of those who’ve surrounded him for their own personal interest. Further, I hope he returns to being the humble young man I met several years ago (where money & lifestyle was never an issue)—only making Ward 8 a safer & a better place to live for it’s residence.

I had the good fortune and honor to be invited by my daughter, Yvette, to my granddaughter’s graduation. Her name is Dream and she was graduating from pre-school to Kindergarten. I have to be honest, I had a warm and happy feeling —-just being able to be there.

First and foremost— Happy Father’s Day to all fathers!!

I had the honor of being invited by Tyrone Parker—to attend a Father’s Day brunch @ Union Temple Church!

The event was very inspirational and I’m extremely grateful to have attended.

Also, I wish to thank Amy Wilkins-Allen for accompanied me to the event!

I was extremely greatful to re-connect with & Rev. Willie Wilson! After my son was murdered, I spent a lot of time working @ Union Temple with Vernon along with a host of others, under the guidance and leadership of Rev. Wilson; to address the systemic issues plaguing our communities.

Also I ran into two of my closest & dearest friends:

Mustafa Ali & Akosuak Ali—-and their baby daughter (whom they honored me to be their child’s uncle).

What a great day!!

Attended Friday, an awesome event @ the University Club—the Annual “Changing of the Guard”!

Introducing the new President; as well as the first black President in the history of the DC Rotary Club, Donnie Shaw!

Besides several of my friends, I had the pleasure & honor of running into another dear friend, Dr. Willie Jolley—One of the greatest motivational speakers in the country— who was the MC of the event!
