One last campus. One unforgettable ending. 🎓✨

Fayetteville State University closed out the final day of the Tumaini DC x Phelps HBCU College Tour, bringing an incredible week of exposure, connection, laughter, learning, and new experiences to a close.

By Day Five, you could feel the shift.

Students weren’t just touring campuses anymore. They were asking deeper questions, imagining bigger futures, and seeing college spaces with a new level of confidence and curiosity.

After visiting Winston-Salem State University for Day Four of the HBCU College Tour, students wrapped up the night with a fun group outing filled with golf, games, laughter, and good energy.

Our Tumaini 2026 graduates understood the assignment and showed UP for prom ✨🔥

From the fits to the confidence to the smiles, our students looked absolutely incredible, and we could not be more proud of them.

Prom is more than just a dance.
It is a milestone.
A memory.
A moment our students will carry with them for years to come.

We also want to give a special shout-out to the parents, families, and supporters who helped make these moments possible. Thank you for showing up for your children, celebrating them, and helping them create memories they deserve to have.

Today, our students visited Virginia Union University and Norfolk State University, gaining exposure to new environments, opportunities, and experiences that help expand how they see their future.

This week is about more than visiting campuses. It is about leadership, confidence, exposure, and helping students see what is possible beyond the classroom.

Students need more than theory…they need real opportunities to build something that belongs to them.

We’ve watched students walk into TAAP unsure of what’s next for them…
Quiet and just trying to get through the day and then something shifts.

They pick up clippers for the first time.
They hold a camera and see the world differently.
They create, practice, mess up, try again… and get better.

And in that process, they start to see themselves differently.

TAAP isn’t just about skills like barbering, photography, videography, lash extensions, or music production.

It’s about exposure to pathways many students didn’t even know existed.

Because the truth is…
👉 college is not the only path
👉 and even for those who go to college, these skills are transformational

They create; confidence, independence, income opportunities & ownership

We’ve had students leave TAAP and:
✨ start their own businesses
✨ serve real clients
✨ make their own money
✨ discover their purpose

This is what happens when learning becomes real, relevant, and rooted in possibility.
Not just preparing students for a test…but preparing them for life 💛

It is official, we are going to Ghana 🇬🇭🎉

This week, our students and families gathered for Ghana Day, the official visa meeting for the Sankofa Study Abroad & Global Leadership Experience.

What made this moment powerful was not just the paperwork or preparation, but hearing the anticipation, emotions, and hopes connected to this journey.

For some students, this will be their first time traveling internationally.

For families, it represents both excitement and trust, the opportunity for young people to experience a different culture, explore identity and history, engage in service learning, and see the world through a broader lens.

Through this experience, students will not only travel. They will reflect, connect, learn, and grow in ways that extend far beyond the classroom.

As we prepare for June, we are incredibly excited for what this journey will mean for every student participating in this year’s program.

Ghana, here we come. 🇬🇭

“Going to Ghana opened my eyes to a lot.”

For Reagan, the Sankofa Study Abroad experience was more than travel. It was exposure, reflection, connection, and perspective.

Through visiting schools, engaging with students, and giving back to local communities, she experienced firsthand how global experiences can shift the way young people see the world and themselves.

What stood out most was not just what she saw, but what she felt.

The experience challenged her emotionally, deepened her appreciation, and reminded her of the importance of empathy, community, and showing young people that they are seen and supported.

This is why the Sankofa Study Abroad & Global Leadership Experience exists.

Not simply to take students to another country, but to create transformational experiences that build leadership, cultural connection, emotional awareness, and global perspective.

As we prepare to return to Ghana this June, we are excited for another group of students to experience growth that extends far beyond the classroom. 🇬🇭✨
